Again, for the idiots that can't keep up... I do not think he should have been arrested. However, to call the cops racists or Ghestapo for doing so is quite simply bullshit. As I stated, it appears BOTH parties over-reacted in this situation.

Their JOB was to ensure that the house was not being broken into by someone other than the owner. Once they established that he was indeed the owner .. get the fuck out of HIS HOUSE.

Citizens are not required to kiss the ass of cops, nor are they required to shut the fuck up when CLEARLY no crime was being committed.

As I stated, I agree that is what the cops should have done. That said, while not required to shut the fuck up, clearly their is NO reason to be yelling at the cops for doing their jobs either. Calling a cop a racist because he came to your home to investigate a reported burglary is fucking ignorant. Yelling at the cop for making sure you were who you said you were is fucking ignorant. Did the cop over-react... yes, I think so. As did the professor.

Also... no one suggested that anyone be required to kiss the cops ass. But at the same time deliberately treating them like shit for doing their jobs is unwaranted.

we get that you agree, how the fuck can you say you wouldn't have arrested him but not that the cop shouldn't have.

So you think this guy goes to jail if he's white?

The cop still wasn't happy after showing the first ID, Prof shows him another yets still gets hauled in.
No way this happens to a 60 yr old white guy, just like the black 65yr old beaten by the Nawlins cops.

I don't think he went to jail, and yes, I think the guy gets arrested if he's white.

Imagine a white dude screaming that he's being persecuted for his skin color that won't show an ID inside a house that was reported as being broken into...

I did say I don't think the cops should have arrested him. They should have simply ignored his racist ass. That said, they are not required to do so.

He did not go to jail you twit. He was arrested, arraigned, released and then charges were dropped once everyone calmed the fuck down.

that is certainly an option, though I do not believe they can do that arbitrarily. As I had said in another post, if you're name is uncommon and verifiable via radio, they will let you go. If your name is john smith, you'll probably be enjoying their company for a bit.

Question: Do cops get arrested for yelling and swearing at citizens?

And I'm only commenting on the stupidity of the police because I thought that was what this thread is about. I don't know enough about what happened to determine whether Gates acted stupidly or not. However, I do know that, regardless of what Gates said or did, it was stupid to arrest him. Acting like a complete jackass, even if he did so, is not illegal.
