Nixon's strategy in Vietnam was not constrained by Congress. Nixon bombed the hell out of areas but still did not put the military leaders in charge of the war. And he still did not remove the restraints on the military which cost so many lives.

Your contention that Nixon was constrained by Congress when his war strategy was the same as the dems and was not under control of congress is defending Nixon. YOu have repeatedly tried to blame the democrats in congress for failures that legitimately belong to Nixon.

I am not defending democrats. I am holding both parties to the same standard. Its something you might try sometime. That is the way you get the actual truth.

I have said over and over that both parties ran the war in the same manner. Maybe you just have trouble understanding what has been said here?

The republicans ran the war from 1968 until the peace treaty in 1973. Nixon's administration was in charge of the strategy during those years. He stepped up bombings in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia several times during his pesidency. He obviously had the funding for that.

But its not so much a question of funding as a question of did we belong there?

What Nixon should have done is withdraw our troops from the conflict altogether. We never should have been there to begin with. The democrats were the ones who got us involved. And McNamara was the main power who got our people killed. But Nixon was elected in 1968 and did not get us out until 1973. How many of our soldiers died during that 5 years? The answer is too damn many.

I have expressed my disgust at McNamara several times in this thread. I have said that the democrats are responsible for getting us into the war.

You have only talked negatively about democrats. That alone shows you're a total partisan trying desparately to make one political party look bad and avoiding any negative comments about the other.

Except for the line about Reagan. What Reagan did in Nicaragua was illegal and unconstitutional. He helped fund a bloodthirsty bunch oif terrorists who were trying to overthrow a democratically elected government.
