A lot of them play word games, but true atheists are rare, about 2% IIRC. IMO, they are "believers" since the only truly logical position is Agnostic.

Yeah. Well basically true Atheists do not accept claims from others about their gods without any evidence.

It's like this:

Dragonmaster: "I have a dragon in my shed over yonder."
Godlessheathen: "Okay take me there so I can see it for myself."
Dragonmaster: "No. It is not the right time. You must believe my claim."
Godlessheathen: "....."

My impression is that true atheists believe "when you're dead you're dead". Anyone who believes in pantheism, panentheism, an afterlife or anything beyond physical reality isn't an atheist....but many of them like to play word games. LOL

There used to be a forum called "Secular Cafe" full of (mostly) Brit and American atheists. A more bitter, angry group of people. The forum finally imploded after I left.

Well that isn't what "atheism" means. The very basic definition of "atheism" is that there is a LACK of belief. To the laymen, it means they are saying MEH! Believe what you want!

Notice that the definition of "atheism" doesn't involve souls and spirituality? Only gods. So it allows them to believe whatever they want and still be called atheists.

That is why I mentioned "militant atheists". They believe in NOTHING. That's few steps above nihilism.

I understand the argument. They believe there is nothing beyond the physical. Word games.

The most logical position is Agnostic since they admit it can't' be known either way.
