Well the "Cowboy" is gone and his successor has instituted a much longed-for (by the Left and the Media at least) change in policy emphasizing Diplomacy and Outreach. After all, Bush was the problem, not the other heads of state right ?

Oh well, there's always N. Korea...

Iran pledges 'crushing' response to US critiques

By MICHAEL WEISSENSTEIN, Associated Press Writer – 2 hrs 10 mins ago

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vowed Saturday to make the U.S. regret its criticism of Iran's postelection crackdown and said the "mask has been removed" from the Obama administration's efforts to improve relations.

Ahmadinejad — with his internal opponents virtually silenced — all but dared Obama to keep calling for an end to repression of demonstrators who claim the hardline leader stole re-election through massive fraud.

"You should know that if you continue the response of the Iranian nation will be strong," Ahmadinejad said in a speech to members of Iran's judiciary, which is directly controlled by the ruling clerics. "The response of the Iranian nation will be crushing. The response will cause remorse."

It's weird that some on the right are putting so much stock in what Ahmadinejad says & does.

He's a nutter; he was a nutter under Bush, and he's a nutter under Obama. The comparison kind of ends there.

Uhm, the point of the discussion is not Ahmadinejad, it is his telling Obama to get on his knees and be his bitch, or else! LOL

So does The One plan to carry his knee pads to Tehran when they "talk?"

Hey, we all tried to tell you it was crazy to meet without preconditions, but you people are the smartest people in the world, you knew better than us. Now what?

In my opinion, Obama's botching of the Iranian conflict is the first of what will likely be many, foreign policy blunders. His hesitation in condemning what was happening, was seen as weak and insignificant, but his eventual 'stronger' tone, was all that Iran needed to justify thumbing their nose at Obama, and 'testing' his resolve further. In summary, Obama's actions were too weak to help the cause of the people in Iran, and too strong to ensure the pleasantries with Ahmadinejad.

Here's the thing, when you are a community organizer, or a Senator, or even when you are running for president, you can present this objective down-the-middle approach to things, where every angle is weighed and measured, and all aspects are considered, and you can slide down this philosophical plane of popular mediocrity with the whole world admiring your ability and way with words... but when reality hits, and you are dealing with radical enemies of our country, well... Obama just took a slide down a razor blade, trying to remain balanced the whole way... ouch!

Right. The Big Leagues require more than campaign platitudes and Moralizing. Is the one-half term Senator in over his head ? ? Can a fawning Media continue to provide cover for this president as its all-bad-all-the-time coverage undermined the last one ? Here's a clue : heard any hand-wringing in the Media about "Mortgaging Our Childrens Future" lately ?

This is pretty stupid (no surprise). As predicted, you will try to turn anything into a "see, Bush was right!" kind of scenario.

The Bush Doctrine is dead. America is seen in a completely different way around the world today, just 6 or so months into Obama's Presidency. Cowboy diplomacy is dead. It's fairly idiotic to try to proclaim "we told you he was crazy! Now you have to go the Bush way!"

The world isn't that black & white, Dix....

Okay, here you have a misleading subject title with statements by the thread originator that have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SUBJECT OF THE POSTED ARTICLE.

Once again, the bitter neocon propaganda machine regurgitates the 2008 election tactics. Problem is, they don't realize that those tactics FAILED.

from the whiner about ad homs.......

Yeah...Obamas Diplomacy and Outreach to Iran........hows it workin' .. ?

Just the remarks posted explain that....

the "mask has been removed" from the Obama administration's efforts ???

Iranian for, "Screw you Obama "

all but dared Obama to keep calling for an end to repression of demonstrators who claim the hardline leader stole re-election through massive fraud.

Iranian for, "STFU"

if you continue the response of the Iranian nation will be strong," Ahmadinejad "The response of the Iranian nation will be crushing.
" The response will cause remorse."

Iranian for, "STFU or I'll kick you ass"

Yeah...Obamas Diplomacy and Outreach to Iran........hows it workin' .. ?

"Yeah...Obamas Diplomacy and Outreach to Iran........hows it workin' .. ? "

Bravo - get a grip. You guys can't wait for instances where you can say, "See! Diplomacy doesn't work. You HAVE to bomb people!"

Obama never said "We're going to use diplomacy, and that will solve all the world's problems!" He, like many intelligent people, was dismayed by the Bush admin's FEAR of diplomacy, and how afraid they were to talk to allies & enemies alike (as Presidents like JFK & Reagan did). He spoke of how he would bring that back to the White House...as opposed to "shoot first; ask questions later..."

I'm against 'bombing' people. It tends to kill the innocents. Obama's 'feel good' foreign policy is leading the US headlong into such positions. The whole 'no preconditions' with Iran was a mistake that Hillary made clear during the elections. Obama should have forcefully come out with rescinding such after the election, but dawdled for over a week. It hasn't made the US or innocent Iranians safer that he wanted to 'talk.'

North Korea is a more imposing problem for the US. No, I don't think they could manage to hit Hawaii. Then again, I've been wrong before. They mean to, but would probably settle for a show of force in their back yard. Same problem, too quick to scoff or say, 'Let's sit down.'

Criticizing Obama doesn't mean Bush did better, he failed in a different way. He treated NK the way Obama is Iran, look what Bush left Obama regarding NK.

It really is past time for the American people, not dems or reps to say, "Protect us, while trying to build bridges. Don't pretend our enemies are our friends or that our allies are acting in our best interest, as that is YOUR job to do, Mr. President." Regardless of party.

Annie, if I take off my "voted for Obama" hat, and try to rack my brains to think of what I'd like to see them doing on Iran right now that they are NOT doing, I can't think of a damned thing.

Can you? What specifically would you want an administration to do right now regarding Iran?

I believe I already alluded to speaking up sooner. They can make clear, beyond the 4th of July 'talks' being called off, that there will be NO talks, until the people's questions regarding elections are addressed. Mind you, I'm not even demanding the treatment of protesters? Perhaps you would, I'd hope. Now mind you, NK is still on the table.

With all due, that is NOTHING. It wouldn't change the situation one iota.

This is generally true about Iran: many aren't happy with the U.S. response, but they also have no effective suggestion for how to change anything.

Again, if Obama had done what you suggest, he would have played right into the propaganda that the Iranian regime is trying to foster onto it's people. Also, the Shrub "axis of evil" BS regarding N. Korea was nowhere near Obama's dealing with said situations....period.

Obama NEVER pretended that our enemies are our friends.....that he approaches each situation with intellectual, rational coolness rather than the false bravado of the past 8 years is a great improvement to our country and the world situation.

Seriously, you are attributing characteristics to him that just are not evident. But it seems to be the way that it's playing out. The US is in for a world of hurt. I should elaborate, but I've got to do my 'homework.' Perhaps you can help? I'll be asking for help, are you a lawyer? LOL!

Seriously, you are attributing characteristics to him that just are not evident. And exactly what has he done or not done that would justify your statement here? But it seems to be the way that it's playing out. It seems that you just ignore the documented facts that have transpired in favor of your opinion and oft repeated mantras found on neocon punditry broadcasts. The US is in for a world of hurt. I should elaborate, but I've got to do my 'homework.' Perhaps you can help? I'll be asking for help, are you a lawyer? LOL!

Translation: chuckles here just can't handle the FACTS, and therefore relies on generalizations, her opinion, supposition and conjecture as a substitute. I'd laugh too, but her willful ignorance and parroting of neocon mantras is no laughing matter.
