If he is upset about this name change, wait till they rename the army posts named after confederate generals?!!

Former President Trump criticized the Cleveland Indians' decision to change the baseball franchise's name to the Guardians, saying "many Indians" will likely be upset by the decision.

"Can anybody believe that the Cleveland Indians, a storied and cherished baseball franchise since taking the name in 1915, are changing their name to the Guardians? Such a disgrace," Trump said Friday.

"And I guarantee that the people who are most angry about it are the many Indians of our Country," Trump added.

I guess the Notre Dame fighting Irish LEPERCHAUN isn't being canceled.

Because Irish people hardly care.

Of course Irish were born with privileged skin color.

What a JOKE the Left is of today.

Of course he does, it is an easy "issue" to demogogue, fits nicely into the cancel culture rhetoric, doesn't say anything of his followers in Red States disproportionately catching and dying from Covid, but having a say on a sports team changing their name is right up his alley

Doesn't even faze me anymore. The dude is senile. He's waving his fist in the air and yelling at children from his porch. If people didn't bathe him, clothe him, and blow dry his hair, he would look like crazy subway guy in 24 hours.

The Traffic Guardians are an Icon in Cleveland. Not a bad choice if you are going to change the name.

He’s not wrong…

You're of Native American decent. Anecdotal of course but what's you or your family's thoughts on sports teams names such as the Redskins, Indians, Chiefs etc.? (Or others in the NA community that you may speak to about this)

This thread brings to mind the following question:

Did Trump make a mistake with how he used social media, and if so at what point did it become a mistake?

I saw someone the other day argue well that it became a mistake Jan 20 2017.

Simple. but accurate. acid test I like for anyone who criticize the abondoning of Native American sports nicknames, would you go up to a person on the street you recognized as a Native American and openly address them as "redskin?" For example, "hey redskin, which was is the ballpark?"

Considering he is of NA decent would he not be allowed to do so if he desired? Should black people not be allowed to call themselves the n*word?

Anecdotal for sure. I am only 1/4 Native American. Of course folks can tell from my posting that I’m against such woke changes. More anecdotal info … Our mascot at the school where I teach is the Savage. About 70% of our kids are of Native American descent. The one time it was mentioned by some poor unsuspecting person that we might ought to change the mascot there was a Native American uprising. The board room was full to overflowing at that meeting. We are still the Savages.

I wouldn’t say this to a complete stranger but consider…when in high school our center fielder was 100% Native. A typical exchange between us would be, “Good catch, Injun.” …. Followed by, “Thanks, paleface.” He’s been dead for years but I remain close friends with his family until this day. We still talk about those “good ol’ days” when Ray and I were in high school playing baseball together.

I love sports and think it teaches so many positive values and it brings people from all walks of life together competing with each other for a common goal. Now there has to be a base level of respect involved but people can joke about their differences like you described above. I know I experienced playing in Oakland leagues growing up. While it can be bad it can have a lot of good too as people learn we are all much more the same than we are different.
