2nd Oath Keeper pleads guilty to conspiracy in Jan. 6 riot

"An Alabama man who stormed the U.S. Capitol with other members of the Oath Keepers extremist group pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiracy and is cooperating with prosecutors in another major boost for the Justice Department in its sweeping Jan. 6 investigation.

Mark Grods, 54, is the second member of the far-right Oath Keepers group to admit to participating in a conspiracy to block the certification of President Joe Biden’s victory and agree to cooperate in the Department of Justice’s massive investigation. Grods’ case was kept secret until Wednesday to protect the investigation and his safety before he testified in front of a grand jury, according to court documents.

The cooperation agreements are certain to put pressure on the more than a dozen other defendants associated with the far-right Oath Keepers who are still fighting the allegations. It’s the largest conspiracy case that authorities have brought so far in the Jan. 6 attack.

Grods, of Mobile, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and obstruction of an official proceeding. U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta said Grods would likely face around four to five years in prison under federal sentencing guidelines. But prosecutors are likely to ask for even less time in exchange for his cooperation against others.

Grods and his attorney did not speak to reporters as they left federal court in Washington on Wednesday. The judge told Grods he could not have any contact with other people associated with the Oath Keepers."

Well that makes it official.

There was most definitely a conspiracy to attack our government.

It definitely was an organized insurrection...done at the behest of Trump.

Lots of these guys are going to do hard time. I am sure by now, they realize that...and are bothered that their Dear Leader seems to be doing more golfing than time.

The rest of 2021 is gonna be interesting...and I suspect 2022 is gonna be even more interesting.

Some of these people were so fucking smug when in the Capitol. Wonder is they will be as smug in their prison homes.

The cult is so far gone, they actually thought they were patriots 'saving the country.'

And it all comes from Trump. At his latest rally he passed out new red hats with the slogan "Save America."

The truth is, America needs saving, yes, from this CULT that refuses to believe the news and instead makes up their own!

And a big part of the problem is there is so much money to be made by supporting the cult.

Look at Fox news, the prime example, but certainly not alone in the profiting off BS department.

But the charges fall short of sedition and therefore falls short of insurrection.

They need the Big Dog for that. His name is Stewart Rhodes but he’s currently unindicted and only mentioned as Person One in the charging democrats. Rhodes was the ring leader that did the planning and put all the pieces in motion but ‘conveniently’ placed himself outside of the Capitol on 1/6.

All they need to do is scratch off Person One on the charging documents, replace it with Stewart Rhodes, and they will put the mastermind to The Great Insurrection behind bars. Instead of bellied up to some bar or whatever he’s doing. Certainly, someone has flipped on him by now so I don’t know what they’re waiting on.

Well, I have some ideas, but it’s a topic for another thread lol.

Why the insurrection enthusiasts aren’t clamoring for his arrest is beyond me. Maybe you have some ideas?

One thing we can say is that the infamous January 6th attack on the capitol WAS an insurrection.

The insurrectionists are admitting it.

They planned it in advance.

There’s two definitions of insurrection: one is the dictionary definition and the other is the formal definition as defined by law.

I’ll be watching to see if you accuse lefties of insurrection next time they attack a federal courthouse. Just for the sake of consistency.

They thought they were saving the country. What they were really doing was revolting against it and losing their own freedom.

The country will be fine without them on the loose.

Sorry I don't want to play the whataboutism game.

And you have really got to be kidding. Anyone who expects people on one side of the political spectrum to go after their own side is bound to be disappointed.

Even though I sometimes actually do just that, I do not do it because it was demanded as a whataboutism deflection.

You have been arguing this insurrection was not an insurrection, saying there was no planning, no organized effort.

Boom.

People have been fooling themselves to trust in Trump.

I wonder how many of them fell for that line: "Go ahead. I'll pay the legal fees."

They will have years without pardon to think about that one.
