Why do so many white people today think they aren't racist?

You want to teach America is a fundamentally racist country but most of the people in the country aren’t racist? How does that work?

Who said that I want to teach that Americans are fundamentally racist?

What else is your OP implying? We already teach about slavery and Jim Crow/the civil rights movement among other atrocities in our country's history. Yet you argue we don't teach the truth about racism. The Hannah Nicole Jones/1619 Project vision of America is one of a country that is fundamentally racist and flawed. That is the version you seem to be favoring.

And think about what you are saying but stating most (white) people aren't racist. That's letting them off the hook for everything that occurs. Do you not buy Robin DiAngelo's white fragility argument that now matter how progressive you think you might be if you are white you are racist?

Imagine a hotel was built by people who hated anyone who is different than 'average'. No buttons on the elevator for short people, ceilings where people over 5"10' hit there heads, steps so steep older people cant access the rooms. Basically a place where anyone with any physical characteristics different than average have almost no access, just getting to there rooms is impossible. Remember the hotel is designed that way intentionally.

Then the owners sell the hotel to new owners, these new owners are not at all prejudice against people who are unaverage. They don't care if you are tall, short, cant walk up stairs, but when these people move in they cant understand why its built the way it was built and simply do not have the same access to the hotel because of the way it was built. The owners are not prejudice against the people, but they are operating a structure that prevents access. The structure of the hotel is in effect causing discrimination. In my opinion, people who are trying to stay there should have some understanding as to why its so difficult for them, and that for the most part, its not their fault that they cant access the benefits of the building.

The new owners are not prejudice, they are however operating a structure that in effect causes discrimination.

The 1619 project does not teach that the American people are racist, but that our system was fundamentally built by people who were. This is why it is so difficult for people of color to get ahead, and while we are trying to fix it, we also need to recognize that as it currently is built, it is harder for these people as a group. You severely misunderstand the 1619 project.

Americans generally are not racists, but to fix the system, we need to be more than non-racists, we need to be affirmatively anti-racist. The first step is teaching the fact that the system was intentionally built to be racist.

I have read and listened to plenty about the 1619 Project. I'm in no way proclaiming myself an expert but I've aware of what their position is. And if you think they believe (white) people just stopped being racist at some point in time then you are very mistaken.

Colin Kaepernick got a bunch of sh*t for not voting. His position was America is an oppressive country and voting only upholds that oppression. Therefore it would be hypocritical of him to vote. Now one is free to disagree with that position of course. But how many times have we heard "I vote Democratic because I'm not a racist and I don't support white supremacy or systemic racism". Bullsh*t!!

We have had basically two political party's that have run this country for much of its history and if you've voted for either you've played a role in the system we have. We have a President who wrote the crime bill legislation that put more black men in prison that any other legislation. It's been called The New Jim Crow and is Exhibit A of System Racism. Yet people say 'I voted for Biden because I don't support racism'. Give me a break.

Ibram Kendi's whole M.O. about anti-racism is equality of outcomes. Take one example, the stock market. How many people here celebrate when it goes up? Yet who does it benefit the most? Largely white people. Far less P.O.C. own stocks. That's systemic racism is it not? So why do we celebrate it?

We could go on and on of course.

You seem to understand it, other than that you think it teaches that Americans ARE RACIST.
UNTRUE, just because we inherited a racist system does not make us racist.

Biden was part of that system, I do not believe he is racist. I believe he supported a Crime Bill that seemed like a good idea at the time, but looking at it from our more enlightened lens, from todays perspective and how it worked, we can see it was created from a racist system and perpetuated racism. Racism is a lingering vestige of our system.

One of the reasons I voted for Biden is because, even with his flaws, he is not a racist. I wish he were an anti-racist, like I believe Kamilla Harris has become, but not being a racist is better than a president who encouraged groups like the Proud Boys.

If there had not been a big difference between Biden and Trump, I would have voted 3td part for sure, because I want better than Biden.

The new owners in my hotel example are like Biden, going forward owning a structure designed to prejudice certain groups without doing much to fix it.

We need owners who are willing to remodel the Hotel, fix the structure, proactively recognize the problem and work on fixing it. We need anti-racists.

I believe America can be remolded and renovated, and does not need to be demolished, if we start soon.

Here's where you are mistaken. "A good idea at the time" is not an acceptable answer. That's why we cancel people. People in the future will look at us today and call us all racist and deplorables just as we do people from the past.

My point about Biden wasn't about Trump. It was in 2020 we elected a person who throughout his career has upheld existing (racist) power structures and wrote racist legislation. One could argue it's difficult to change the system overnight but in the future people will say why didn't we? Just as we say about allowing slavery in this country at its founding. In real time you have to do with present realities but in the future you don't when looking back and judging.

So we need anti racists to deal with people who aren't racist? I hope you recognize why all this sounds like retarded leftist double speak. It's the same with masks

It's ALWAYS about trump with them though. That's been their linchpin.

If you're talking about CRT, all that is designed to divide Americans.

Maybe that's the Democrats' plan and they want to get back to segregation?

They surely fought against desegregation.

So what do you think is the most important lesson students should learn from CRT?

That America was created using racist structure, and that as a vestige of that structure we have an unfair system, and that if we work together we can remodel that system to fix it.

South Africa is majority Black, so it was easier for them to force the change, but they would be a good model for us. They rapidly changed such a structure.

We need anti-racists to deal with remodeling the current racist structure, not to deal with people. You are intentionally twisting what I am saying, or simply to dumb to grasp it.

How is the system unfair? It's certainly unfair that lebronda James makes more money that the teachers who you want to teach this shit

What will "the fix" look like?
