Like a 'B' grade horror movie...

Again, are you railing against the bankruptcy code here? Do you want to institute debtor's prisons? Seriously.

There are all sorts of very good capitalistic reasons for the government to "save people from the practice of freedom" and the government does so through myriad ways, the least objectionable and pernicious of which to me is providing nightly shelter for the homeless.
The extravagance itself is clearly a bit of a sign of the government taking a bit too much of the risk.

This isn't bankruptcy law, this is directly paying way too much to put people into homes.

I am moving to NYC to become homeless! Can some of you really not see how this would work as a motivator to stay poor and homeless? Christ, most of us that bust our asses every day don't live that nice. I have no problem with the city paying for some temp housing, maybe an efficiency or one bedroom where a mother and her kids can sleep and cook and get out of the elements, but 2700 a month for a luxury condo, people are NOT going to work to get out this "predicament"

God, it's fucking sad that you needed to explain that to the resident morons here. They must all be clueless about how much an apartment should cost.

2700 a month per homeless person? Hoily shit! What's wrong with you idiots that you don't see that as ridiculously expensive. Had they gotten the apartments rented for 1000 a month, i'd have no problem. The contractor/owner would be taking a loss, but getting some income. It's not reasonable to pay full price for luxary condo's because they were empty.

Hey there's some brand new vehicles not being used. let's have the government pay for carless people to lease them!

Since you, sir, are a Republican first and a conservative second (despite what you'll tell us), you have no valid criticism to make.

There is no material distinction between someone who votes 100 percent for Republicans and calls themselves a "conservative" and a Republican.

The people you vote for give billions and billions to the wealthy and corporations. It's welfare for the wealthy. This is a fact. I know you like those, so hang onto this one and think about it a little.

The people you vote for give billions and billions to the wealthy and corporations.:):):)

Thats kinda funny....and of course its the normal hypocrite bullshit....typical for morons and Democrats....I know, its redundant ....

Since the dims just gave 8.5 TRILLION to Corporations in the last 90 days....

NYC Turns Luxury Units Into Shelters For Homeless
NEW YORK (CBS) ―

http://wcbstv.com/local/nyc.homeless.luxury.2.1030856.html

New York City is housing some homeless families in Brooklyn luxury condos.

The condos couldn't attract buyers in the current housing market. Now they're filling a need for some of the city's "unprecedented" number of homeless families, according to a report in The Daily News.

The apartments in Crown Heights were supposed to sell for $250,000 to $350,000. The amenities include granite countertops, terraces, marble bathrooms and walk-in closets.

Developer Avi Shriki says he had to come up with a Plan B "when the market went south." He signed a 10-year contract with the Bushwick Economic Development Group to turn the building into a shelter.

The city is paying about $2,700 a month for each apartment. The figure also covers social services, including job counseling.

NY should just sub contract out the homless shelters to Alabama, they would cost lots less.

Wow your dumber than I thought. Thousands of self employed businesses go under every year. But not ever u right. Lofl thanks for that one tool

The rule of thumb is that about 1/2 go under after year one, and then less and less thereafter, and if you've made it 7 years you're pretty fucking solid. I've been at it for 11 years. I guess that makes me a real dummy, right? *shrug*

Southern I hope you make millions really I woulndt wish unemployment on anyone. Take balls to start your own gig. Kudos to you on 11 yrs of kicking ass. I can see why a business owner would be hard core repub. I as before I got rich, but I didn't have to risk like you did and when I read about Reagan being anti herb I got pissed.

Jealous? :pke:

Homeless shelter = temporary accommodations.

Most shelters expect the people to leave during the day and return only to sleep, and maybe eat. Shelters also have a limit on how long a person can stay in them. Around here 30 days is the norm, even for women and children escaping abusive relationships.

Call me naive but I think most homeless people would rather have a decent-paying job and a place they can call their own rather than the uncertainty and stress of living on the streets, even if they can take a shower in a luxuriously-appointed bathroom.

You can answer the question yourself if you think about why you haven't already called them to see if you can get a spot yourself.

Also, where's this retarded notion come from that the homeless are all just lazy and need to get out and go to work? Mental illness is the #1 cause of homelessness, not laziness. And it's pretty hard to hold a job if you think it's 26-o-clock.

Thus luxury apartments at taxpayers expense = answer.

Look fool, there is a problem with the homeless, and a large part of it is a social problem that needs to be addressed in the right way. But judging by your words here on this thread, penthouses at the Palms would be even better than anything, if the Palms couldn't fill their rooms, because LOLZ if you have 26 hours in a DAYZ......

Be reasonable you idiot. There is a clear distinction between helping the helpless, and eliminating motivation. Even an ivory tower lip glossed ideological metrosexual who never had to work a day in his life could understand that. There must be another adjective to you.

I agree. The rooms are over the top. They could probably find a cheaper way to house them for what they're spending. That's the public service role of the journalism that let the constituents know about this so the NY city councilmen have to change the way things are done.

My beef(y) is with the larger issue of what Republicans often bring up in situations like this - the idea that they just need to get a job, they're living off the government/taxpayer teat, blah blah. It's all bogus. It's a simple explanation for a simple mind. You know better, clearly. But you're not representative of the people toward whom my message was intended.

I appreciate your sentiment, Topper. Fact is I' have never been a "team player" so sorta got forced into self employment. I'll never make millions selling my own service. The only way to do that is to sell the same thing over and over, like books, software, or a product. Maybe I can sell my business when I retire and make a bit there, but not much more than 2 or 3 years income.
