Obama picks Sotomayor for Supreme Court -- bye bye Republican Party

I think it is quite comical how some try to find racism in everything. She does not have anything to explain. Only foolish individuals who are taking a PORTION of a quote and then using it out of context are having a problem comprehending what she was saying.

The accusations are aimed at comments Sotomayor made during a 2001 lecture at the University of California-Berkeley. Referring to former Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's saying that "a wise old man and wise old woman will reach the same conclusion in deciding cases," Sotomayor said, "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."

We are all quite aware of the quote. Some of us, heaven forfend, actually read the entirety of the speech and the particular quote in context:

Well, Superfreak is making sense again. One of us must be stoned.

Actually, I'm really glad that you get this, and get it so well. It really signifies to me that the only people who don't are very whiny whites who most likely, in fact, nearly definitely harbor their own racist feelings. and there just ain't enough of them to matter anymore.

In fact, that was Bac's point. And he's 100% right. The good news is, none of this bullshit matters anymore.

She can't help but reflect? That's human. The question however is will her "reflections" cause her to be an activist or to judge a case based on the constitution and NOT her experiences.

Can someone take care of the mop-up duty here? I'd hate to get my hands dirty with this one.

So if I don't agree with her stance on the 2nd Amendment, that makes me a racist white man? that is about the most idiotic liberal talking point you have left, isn't it? the panacea to everything negative is 'race'.

No not at all. I'm sorry you read this whole thread and came to that rather odd conclusion, but that is not my view you have there.

the entire speech does not alter her racist comments....even o conner would disagree with her...she specificially stated her race should give her the ability to reach better decisions, thats racist.

But the full context does nothing to alter the racist meaning either, no matter how many times you say it does. It actually further proves her commitment to identity politics and racism.

only a moron would sit here and proclaim that it was taken out of context...the context was that justice day o conner was wrong, a male and female old wise judge would NOT come to the same conclusion, rather, sotomayor opined that her latina female heritage would result more often than not in her making better conclusions than white males.

it is you that is having difficulty with comprehension. apparently you're in such a hissy fit that you felt compelled to neg rep on the bases of differing opinions, i suggest you go smoke some more reefer and chill out

No, dearest little Yurt... you are indeed taking it out of context. She was discussing how being a woman and hispanic should allow her to make better decisions with regards to issues of race and gender discrimination. That is the part you continue to ignore. She is NOT stating that she should be better than a white man on ALL issues. That is the context you are either missing or too ignorant to comprehend.

Oh boo hoo. Superfreak neg repped me for kicking his ignorant ass so hard.

What a vaginal blood fart he turned out to be.

Seriously though:

She was was responding directly to an opinion on color/gender blindness, an opinion that an old man and an old woman, both wise from age apparently, would come to the same conclusion. She disagreed with that, believing that gender and racial identity are unescapable in making decisions, and furthermore, that latina female decisions are innately superior. She is a racist, even in context

You guys can stop spinning. I will just keep coming back and reframing it properly.

As did Alito in his confirmation hearings. Is he a racist also, or is a person required to divorce himself/herself from his life experience in order to be a good judge? Some might say it would make him/her a better judge. Is 'empathy' now forbidden? When did that become the rule in dispensing justice? I suspect it is conveniently recent, apparently within the last week or so.

Empathy is the ability to transcend your own identity and relate to another. She believes thats' impossible. That's actually the opposite of empathy.
