Because We Can't Talk About It Enough . . . Another Torture Thread

Well I don't know about that, I'd put it more like this and if you think about it, this is part of the genius of our country, in America, we do what's right and when we're wrong.....we fix it!

That's what's happening now. We made some big mistakes during the Bush years and we are now fixing those mistakes. Isn't it a great country? :)

exactly. well said...

You know that's the point that I've made over and over again about this issue on Terrorism. To many of the reactions that have occurred, The USA Patriot Act (Or as I call it, The Yellow Bellied Coward Act.), Guantanimo and the use of torture are the products and actions of cowards.

If we bastardize the principles of what American stands for to protect our selves from terrorist then it doesn't mean anything to be an American any more and the terrorist win.

The point is simple. America stands for human rights and the rights of Individuals and we will fight for those rights and if that means we have to work twice as hard as the next country to defend our people and protect our rights then so be it. I'm not afraid to do that.

I feel pretty much contempt for those cowards who would limit our rights and torture a fellow human being because they are afraid. That is not what it means to be an American.

Exactly!

The ironic thing is we're told the terrorists want to change our lifestyle. They hate our freedoms. Etc, etc, etc.

Now we look at how our freedoms have been eroded since 9/11. Not by terrorists but by our own government. The terrorists have won and people who defend such government policies ensure the terrorists will continue to win.

The terrorists have succeeded. They have terrorized the entire country. Well, more to the point it's our own politicians who have terrorized the country. Our own politicians have curtailed our freedoms. Our own politicians have implemented secret arrests and trials where a person can not confront their accusers because of the "National Security" bullshit argument. It's our own politicians who have sanctioned secret wiretaps.

Not a bad accomplishment for ONE attack. Of course, we can add an additional 4,000 dead in Afghanistan and Iraq and the tens of thousands of wounded.

We did all that to ourselves! And now we can add torture.

What is it about all this that some folks can't see?

no. I do recommend it for you, however... they do a good job on reading comprehension skills... and you need help in that area.
Actually I got good grades in school including English Literature. Perhaps in this case the issue is with your writing skills.

literature is not so germane.... composition would be the course that could have helped you more.

It doesn't really matter, though, southern man... we both know that you would disagree with me on any issue, simply for the joy of disagreeing.

Actually a course on composition is to help the writer, which in this case was you. I must thank you for this excellent example of your lack of composition skills and attempting to blame others for lacking skills of comprehension.

That's a hard question to answer. For many I think that they feel patriotism requires them to support their government and their political leaders at a time of crises or in war and there is truth in that. We do need to support our government and political leaders at those times. But our government, even in times of crises and war must adhere to our social contracts and the rule of law and respect our rights as citizens and when they cross that line it's our responsiblity as citizens to hold their feet to the fire. However, there are those who do not agree with this. They believe our support should be unconditional. That to me is odd and is certainly un-American but that is the reality of how some people feel.

and yet, you nanny staters want to remove the most effective means at keeping our freedoms by implementing more gun control. ironic, eh?

like I said... you failed to understand my clear and logical argument... that's not my fault. But I never expected much more from you.

Since you apparently don't understand the difference between composition and comprehension, it is your fault.

Since you've responded with pure insult it is proof that you have been pwned, yet again. :)

not so.... it is pretty clear that your purported studies in english literature have not equipped you with the skills necessary to comprehend written english. The course of study aimed at teaching you about how words are put together into sentences - which might help you in your efforts to comprehend what people write - is usually referred to as "english composition". I would recommend you see if there are some educational institutions in your area that offer such a course.

Actually, The courses that I took in literature I did rather well in, contributing in part to the honors in my degree, proving my competence in comprehension. What is clear is your lack of composition skills, as illustrated with your earlier confusion of the two terms.

I am not at all confused over the terms. Clearly, if you had been able to comprehend what I composed in my previous post, you would not have said that.:pke:

My comprehension that you confused the two terms was spot-on. I'm not surprised that you can't comprehend it yourself.
