LMAO!
William F. Buckley, 1955: Conservatism stands athwart history, yelling STOP!
Lee Atwater, 1981: You start out in 1954 by saying, “N*gger, n*gger, n*gger.” By 1968 you can’t say “n*gger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “N*gger, n*gger.”
Rush Limbaugh, 2009: What was it that gave us, for example, the tax cut policy to raise revenue and wipe out a recession? Conservative philosophy and principle. The policy, the law, the idea, the way to get it implemented, descended from that. (The Reagan tax cuts didn't raise revenue and instead tripled the debt and doubled the deficit).
Thanks for the assist! I was always looking for that Limbaugh quote tying him to Atwater. So good job helping me make that connection.
