Yeah fighting a war that the US would have had to fight if Texas had been a State at the time. The reason Texas became a state is becuase they were broke and the US would pay off their war debt if they became a state.
Kinda the first welfare state?
Much like simply paying for territory rather than conquering it. I see no real difference. The government of the US wanted to expand their territory and were willing to pay for it rather than fight. The reason Texas became a state is becuase they were broke and the US would pay off their war debt if they became a state.

Salmon beat Armadillos any day.
Darned armored possums.
The consumption of armadillo meat is the only known source of leprosy in the US. I prefer not to eat it, even though leprosy is now curable.Like hell. You can make one hell of a fine chilli with Armadillo. The idear of salmon chilli kinda makes me ill.
I suspect Grind had something to do with that. And I second everything Ib1 just said. I was just in Seattle today, getting sunburned and watching the Mariners beat the Red Sox (hell yeeeah!). Awesome city!

Seriously, look up the stats. There are very few cities with a higher percentage of the population having college degrees than Seattle. Nothing in Texas even comes close.
And what the heck are you talking about me being a liar? I gave you a picture showing you precisely what the tags are for this thread.
wrong as usual.....
For population 25 years and over in College Station
High school or higher: 93.8%
Bachelor's degree or higher: 58.1%

Compare Seattle to Houston instead of a college town.
he said... Nothing in Texas even comes close...he is wrong
and check austin to satisfy your own curiosity, very close
There are 1 or 2 nice places in Texass.
Some are better placaes to live than Seattle. I hate big cities.
Big cities kick ass! Of course urban or suburban is a personal preference.
Screw that, I like living on the lake and having room to play. I can drive to a big city for what it has to offer.

Haha... I like living in the city and driving to the lake for play.
I'm also single with no kids so suburban life may appeal to me one day but not right now.
Oops, again you beat me to it! I wouldn't chance it either. What's the saying, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!".
"An ounce of not eating armadillo is worth a pound of not having my body parts fall off"
Exactly. BTW, did you read the Thomas Covenant series? I'm about to start a re-read of it; it's been several years, time again.
