The reason it was enacted was because the alcohol prohibitionists knew that they could never get booze outlawed at the federal level until there was another source of government revenue to replace the booze tariffs. The passage of the 16th Amendment paved the way for 18th Amendment that outlawed booze.

Income tax is the only progressive tax that can fairly tax each income level.

Sales tax is incredibly REGRESSIVE because lower income people spend almost if not all of their income and would be thus taxed at a much higher rate.

This has been explained as a stupid idea an infinite number of times, volsrock.
You personally would do worse under that system unless you're a billionaire.

Yeah? Because they knew in 1862 that the 18th amendment was going to be passed?

The 16th amendment was passed to eliminate conflicting court rulings on the income tax which existed prior to the 16th amendment.

I am not, Uber is not, and if they fuck this up as they are determined to do - the gigs go away-
or are vastly curtailed.

You find a niche, work it till it's dry, then find or add another -allows you flexibility and the chance to max out your earnings

An estimated $1 trillion/year is lost due to tax avoidance. Ironically, the IRS is more apt to audit some lower middle class person in Mississippi, than a billionaire who pays millions to an accountant to avoid taxes.

If trumpkins don't believe in tax hikes to fund infrastructure, they should be happy to force everyone to pay current rates.

I would say that all billionaires are right wingers who don't want to pay taxes. There are millions of right wingers who are paupers who vote against their own best interests.
