Dems red-faced over veteran imposter
Democrats are incensed over how a man duped the party and veterans during the '08 campaign.
By Michael Riley
The Denver Post

WASHINGTON — Rick Strandlof, executive director of the Colorado Veterans Alliance and the man most colleagues knew as Rick Duncan, was front and center during the 2008 political campaigns in Colorado.

He spoke at a Barack Obama veterans rally in front of the Capitol in July, co-hosted several events with then- congressional candidate Jared Polis and attacked Republican Senate candidate Bob Schaffer in a TV ad paid for by the national group Votevets.org.

And the mostly Democratic candidates he supported — looking for credibility on veterans issues and the war — lapped it up appreciatively.

Now, politicians are dealing with news that the man they believed to be a former Marine and war veteran wounded in Iraq by a roadside bomb, in fact, never served in the military — but did spend time in a mental hospital.
--------

Is it any wonder? The last few words explain why he supported Obama and most Democrat candidates and attacked Republicans....

I'm missing why this would make a republican like bravo happy enough to post? Does he laugh over death too? Seems like skewed values to laugh at a person with mental problems, I wonder if that is 'new' or just typically thoughtless.

I can't count how many times your fellow liberals have called me or another person that they disagree with a "retard".

Why would Dems be red-faced over a person with emotional problems? Were you embarrassed over Ashley Todd? These people deserve pity, not scorn.

In October 2008, Ashley Todd, a volunteer for the U.S. presidential campaign of Republican John McCain, falsely claimed to have been the victim of robbery and politically motivated physical assault by a supporter of McCain's Democratic opponent Barack Obama.

Todd had worked as a field representative for the College Republican National Committee since August 2008 and had come to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in mid-October to recruit college students.[2] On October 22, 2008, Todd claimed that she was robbed at knifepoint[3] by a "six-foot-four African American of medium build, dressed in dark clothes wearing shiny shoes"[4] at a Citizens Bank ATM in the Bloomfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh. She also alleged that after the robber saw a McCain bumper sticker on Todd's car, he assaulted her, cut a reversed letter B into her cheek,[5] and told her "you are going to be a Barack supporter."
<snip>
Todd was charged with filing a false police report, a misdemeanor charge with a maximum jail sentence of two years. While jailed, Todd underwent a court-ordered psychiatric examination and was deemed to be competent to stand trial, but in need of further counseling. On October 30, she agreed to a deal in which she was released from jail, but must undergo psychiatric counseling as condition of her release.
<snip>
in February 2008 Todd had claimed that her car's tires had been slashed and campaign material had been stolen from her car because of her support for Republican politician Ron Paul, an opponent of McCain for the Republican presidential nomination. Group leader Dustan Costine told the Post-Gazette that Todd was asked to leave the Paul campaign a month later, after she posed as a Mike Huckabee supporter and called the local Republican committee seeking information about its campaign strategies.[2]

The truth hurts. You're a blind lemming who apparently decided everything years ago and doesn't let the facts change any outlook. You've probably had the same opinion since you were jizz.

Are you kidding me? After all the Joe the plumber 'he is not a plumber' stories...

This guy pretended to be a wounded veteran, the Dems here did not vet him at all, but instead plastered the guy on their campaigns attacking Reps like Schaffer.

They should indeed be red faced.

Wrong again, Fatso. I was a registered Democrat until I saw the light about 18 years ago. Now that I understand The Big Lie I am fully committed to stomp it out. :)

No, I'm not kidding. There's nothing to kid about.

The OP's thread title is: "Dem supporter with mental problems...so whats new". The OP highlighted this phrase in the article: "...but did spend time in a mental hospital." It's clear the OP's snide comments were to suggest that people with mental problems would tend to vote for Dems, or that military imposters are more likely to be Dems than repubs.

Your comment about Joe the plumber is irrelevant but since you've brought it up, Joe's wounds were mainly self-afflicted, with a lot of help from McCain.

Joe opined falsely that Obama's tax policies would take money out of his pocket, yet he was behind on paying his own taxes.

Joe called himself a plumber but he wasn't licensed in either the city or the state, and in fact, hadn't completed the apprenticeship program he started back in 2003.

Joe said he was getting ready to buy the business but the owner denied that he was planning to sell.

Joe criticized government welfare programs while leaving out the fact that his own parents were on welfare twice when they fell on hard times.

Joe's casual bigotry was documented: "Wurzelbacher, speaking of same-sex mariage, said that it was "wrong. People don't understand the dictionary—it's called queer. Queer means strange and unusual. It's not like a slur, like you would call a white person a honky or something like that." He further stated that he's "had some friends that are actually homosexual. And, I mean, they know where I stand, and they know that I wouldn't have them anywhere near my children."

McCain referred to "Joe the plumber" over 20 times in the debate, thereby drawing media attention to Joe.

Now Joe left the GOP because he's outraged with their overspending.

The only people who need to be red-faced over this comedy of errors are Joe, McCain and all those who set him on a pedestal before realizing he has clay feet just like anybody else.
