WASHINGTON (AP) - One out of every four ballots requested by military personnel and other Americans living overseas for the 2008 election may have gone uncounted, according to findings being released at a Senate hearing Wednesday.

Sen. Charles Schumer, chairman of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, said the study, while providing only a snapshot of voting patterns, "is enough to show that the balloting process for service members is clearly in need of an overhaul."

So why did not Bush fix it in his 8 years as president?

Wow. That's a fucking crime. These are the guys with their asses on the line and their votes are not being counted?

More proof that government is incompetent and must be abolished.

Hmmm, so if uncounted votes are to question the legitimacy of an election, there's a little incident that took place in Florida in 2000 that you should know about.
Bureaucratic foul ups versus a willful, demonstrative act.....interesting!

America has a third-world election system.

Where's the news?

Neither party, nor the people who support them, are the least bit interested in fixing the election system as long as their candidate wins.

When Bush was in office the democrats were crying foul .. now it's the republicans turn .. but nobody is interested in integrity in American elections.

No votes were 'uncounted'...they just wanted to count them over and over until different total come up....
But I'll explain it all to you again...so your not confused about the 2000 election.....

Seems some still don't grasp what happened in Fla. and make up their own facts as they see fit....

Here it is again....pay attention:

. Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris announced she would reject any revised totals from those counties if they were not turned in by November 14, the statutory deadline for amended returns.

Despite the lies, Harris was following the freekin' laws of Florida as they existed ...11/14 THE DEADLINE FOR AMENDED RETURNS

The Florida Supreme Court extended the deadline to November 26, a decision later vacated by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Florida Dim packed State Supreme court tried to CHANGE THE EXISTING LAWS to accomodate Al Gore and the Democrats....unconstitutional

Miami-Dade eventually halted its recount and resubmitted its original total to the state canvassing board, while Palm Beach County failed to meet the extended deadline. On November 26, the state canvassing board certified Bush the victor of Florida's electors by 537 votes.

Even with the unconstitutional deadline of 11/26 ... BUSH STILL WON

Gore formally contested the certified results, but a state court decision overruling Gore was reversed by the Florida Supreme Court, which ordered a recount of over 70,000 ballots previously rejected by machine counters. The U.S. Supreme Court quickly halted the order.

a. Gore's attempt to steal the election was stopped by a state court decision
b. Florida Supreme Court again goes to bat for Gore by overturing the State Court...this is second attempt by Fla. SC to give the election to Gore...
c. US Supreme Court finally does their duty and tells FSC to fuck-off with their unconstitutional biased decisions to help Gore

On December 12, the Supreme Court ruled 7-2 that the Florida Supreme Court's plan for recounting ballots was unconstitutional. It also directed by a 5-4 vote that the Florida recounts cease and that the previously certified total would hold.

And those kiddies... are the facts of the 2000 election and Gors attempt to steal the Presidency with the help of a left-wing court....you can not change the laws after an election because it didn't turn out in your favor...

*Sigh* A lot of wind for someone who jumps to the dubious documentation of wikipedia to verify his point. Let's see how you fare sans the neocon bluster:

Please read carefully and comprehensively:

http://www.redrat.net/gorebush/cleansing.htm
http://www.gregpalast.com/the-great...w-the-felon-voter-purge-was-itself-felonious/

Even your own sources in Wikipedia acknowledge that when DBT alerted the State/Harris of the flaws, they were told not to worry and that a revision was not necessary.

And then there was that lovely stipulation by the USSC that gave an unreachable deadline for a final recount.

Of course you leave out those little recount rascals from the GOP, and the FACT that over 57,000 Floridians never got a chance to vote...a lot of people that would effect the electoral vote. And if it were you that got disenfranchised, would you think the outcome "fair"?

Before I read the OP I'm going to guess: they cheat.
No they don't - at least no more than the other guys.

They win elections by waiting for republicans to fuck up so badly the electorate feel they have no alternative.

Then, essentially, the republicans stand their turn in line with the same strategy.

And each cycle we end up in a little deeper hole the politicos promise to get us out of while shoveling the thing deeper.

If only every politician were like you, then they'd win every election. Because you are above it all, Good Luck. Everyone knows that. And everyone agrees with you. You are the political center in this nation. If only we had politicians that were truly centrist, and held common sense positions, such as allowing every nutbag to own a full arsenal of nuclear weapons, we'd be a lot better off. Sanity would be restored and we'd reign in glory for a thousand years over the lesser races.

I am anything but centrist - I am and always have been a classical Hamiltonian type liberal, though I take a lot of credence in what Jefferson and the other anti-federalists had to say also. But I am not of either political party because both are hopelessly corrupt and neither genuinely represents the political philosophy they claim to. When someone cannot recognize the difference between political philosophy and party affiliation, it only shows their profound ignorance on all issues political.

The rest of your crap is exactly that - the diarrheal discharge of the mindless troll.

Hamilton was probably one of the least liberal of the founders. This was, of course, a time when "conservatives" (IE Federalists) were generally regarded as in favor of a less democratic, stable, and strong government. Although Jefferson did have a massive flaw in his support of slavery, he represented the liberal side.

Political parties in America are every year becoming more like their parliamentary kin - representative of an ideology rather than the catch-all, believe nothing traps they had previously been. Which is why I think I'll see a large third party resurgence sometime in my lifetime - if parties closely start to represent certain ideologies, there are going to be a lot of people far enough outside the cracks that they will find making a new party the easiest path.

Until that time, though, I'm an ally of the Democratic party. But my first most allegiance is with social liberalism and economic moderatism, and the Democratic party is merely a tool for furthering that.
