Taiwan

None. I think Taiwan is of Symbolic value to China but very little actual value. Its more important to them to finish and expand the new silk road and expand their economy to be bigger than the US.

Pretty damn good. They know Biden is weak and useless. I hope it does not come to pass though.
That is my exact thoughts. I figure it will happen in the next two years. Russia got away with Ukraine during Obama and China will get away with Taiwan under Biden.

What do you think the chances are that China will attack Taiwan during the Biden administration.

Moderate. There will have to some catalyst to cause that to happen, although I think China will continue to step up pressure on Taiwan to fold and join the mainland.

They'd love to get their hands on TSMC and their world beating silicon foundry expertise. They have an unassailable lead in both 5nm and 7nm Extreme Ultraviolet lithography (EUV) process technology for the foreseeable future.

110%

Say bye bye to all the best things from the East. All tech stocks will be FUBAR.

I hope Tiawan stands their ground like the balls I think they have.

Zero. Push? Yes. Make waves in the Yellow Sea? Yes.

What do you think should be the US response in each of the mentioned scenarios?

Also, this isn't a one-sided deal. China has its own problems. Should the US exploit or help with those problems overall?

The Chinese can think that and still not attack. Unlike Americans who usually want immediate gratification, the Chinese, as a both a culture and a government, are in it for the long game.

They'll most certainly press their advantage, maybe even saber rattle a little around Taiwan then settle for concessions from the Biden administration such as his administration throwing our allies in the Yellow Sea under the bus "to avoid war".

They'll play the Biden administration but war is very bad for business and capitalism is fueling their growth. This, of course, is a double-edged blade because when people develop a taste for prosperity they are reluctant to give it up.

In short, the Chinese will play Biden like a Bass Fiddle but there won't be war.

Yup. I forgot where I wrote this before but China has existed for a thousand years and despite different forms of government the Chinese today still consider themselves the heirs of the Ming, The Han, The Qin, The Tang, even if some of them were invaders and not strictly Chinese. That gives them a different mindset and view of history.

True. OTOH, cultures change under new influences. A main reason Americans are #1 in favoring Immediate Gratification is because of capitalism; the engine powering our nation. Capitalism thrives under consumerism and the best consumerism of all is immediate gratification. Basically, pushing all consumers to fail the Marshmallow test.

Like it or not, since people are people, the Chinese are just as susceptible to consumerism and immediate gratification as anyone else. The change may take a hundred or two hundred years but it will come, all things remaining the same.

Xi is all about Chinese symbolism.

Don't sell Taiwan short. They've literally been preparing for invasion for decades.

trump let them go after Hong Kong and did nothing

Trump was the weak one who China knew he wouldn’t do shit

which is why China is not gonna touch it. Its too much risk for too little gain. They gain much more by claiming portions of the south china sea.

Bullcrap. Trump changed the entire paradigm of our relationship with China. If the US eventually does win out over China and stays hegemon Trump will be credited for being the first to recognize the threat and starting the fight.

Agreed. They might rattle their sabers against Biden then "settle" for concessions in the South China Sea with a ten year treaty promising to respect Taiwan's sovereignty...after which they'd use a business model to simply buy out Taiwan by the turn of the century....or less.
