Virginia cops pepper-sprayed Black and Latino Army officer

Hello Dutch Uncle,

The blue wall.
Another reason to push for 24/7 BWC regulations and funding plus stricter accountability of everyone involved. Everyone the camera sees. Think about police having video drones for quick launch and coverage upon certain alerts. These things could be put attop street lights every few blocks and launched at the command of dispatch.

With video will come more trust and justice because the American people will demand it.

Consider the infamous Rodney King case. Five people should have been arrested and eventually convicted that night: Rodney King for felony evading and four police officers for assault. Instead, nobody got nothing because all were guilty, the police with the greater responsibility covered it up, Rodney got paid and the public was left unhappy with the results. Better to have just arrested and convicted all five of them.

So ... you agree He wasn't stopped for 'Driving While Black'.

I am latino, I don't have the complexion of the the 2nd LT, and I am also a career military guy and I would have been like "what the fuck" over this incident and I too would be very hesitant to move my hands out of his site to undo my belt or unlock my door. If it was the other way around for a REAL reason and I had drawn on someone in the field and they moved thier hand out of site for a second, I would have shot that person. That would have been my mindset in this situation if I was the lt as well.

he did nothing wrong and probably saved his own life not undoing his belt.

Hello Jack,

So ... you agree He wasn't stopped for 'Driving While Black'.

Of course.

He was stopped because the officer didn't think to put a spotlight on the back window of the vehicle to check for a temp tag. One little lesson could have averted the entire incident.

And I bet the dealer where Navario purchased the car taped the temp tag up in the back window as is normally done. Navario probably never gave it a second thought. But since the dealer which handled the licensing (and likely collected a fee for it,) was acting as an agent of the Commonwealth of Virginia, not only did that act free Navario of any legal obligation to make sure it was displayed better, the officer became obligated as a representative of the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia to check in the place that temporary tags are normally displayed.

It was sloppy police work and it almost got an innocent person killed.

Which is why the Sergeant Major of the Army expressed both his concern over the actions in the video and also supported Lt. Nazario's conduct. As do I.

Translation: 'OK. The Traffic Stop wasn't because of the color of his skin.'

Totally agree.

Navario was one flinch away from death.

So he's either a complete fucking moron, a living Barney Fife or he's a complete asshole who didn't give a shit, they just saw a negra boy in uniform and wanted to have some fun?

Personally, I think evil is highly overrated in these situations and sheer stupidity is highly underrated.

Who shines a fucking spotlight in the back of a moving vehicle? That's ludicrous.

Don't bet. So far, you've come up a loser.

From the latest reports, both escalated the incident.

Hello Dutch Uncle,

As Jack pointed out the officer made the stop without knowing the race of the driver.

Hindsight provides the lesson. Put a light on the tinted back window if there is no tag.

If he was observant, he would have looked for it once the vehicle pulled under the light, verified it was a legally owned car, and driven on without even talking to the driver.

Instead, he was on his little power trip and obviously had a big attitude because the driver did not immediately pull over along a dark road. Professional officers remain objective and alert. This guy was neither.

He wasn't resisting 'arrest'. He was impeding the job Cops are hired to do. (How fucking hard is it to show yourself, resolve any questions the Cops may have, then go about your business?)

I have a better idea- STOP HARASSING MINORITIES AND RACIALLY PROFILING PEOPLE BY POLICE DEPARTMENTS TO BEGIN WITH!

Yes. I agree with that. But ...
I don't think that was the case here.

Now I know it's very chic and Woke and politically correct to boil everything down to Race, but the guy wasn't pulled over because of his Race, he was pulled over for no License plate and tinted windows.

He was asked/told (from 30 feet away) to 'get out of the vehicle'. How hard is that?
