Gay pride parade in houston 2004 draws 200,000

Hey check this out. It's a true story. My brother in law is a good guy and a smart guy but he puts the "Red" in redneck. He came up with this idea he designed on his CAD system (He's an independent machinist by trade) for creating reflectors in the shape of several major universities loggos (Ohio State, Michigan and UWV are the three he's copyrighted and licensed). To make the molds for these reflectors cost a pretty penny so he's invested a lot in this. Well at Christmas last year when he was first getting started I suggested he design a gay pride rainbow reflector and told him to call my gay brother in Florida to see if he'd be interested in financing the licensing and creation of the first mold. Long story short is they did the deal and this item has been selling better then the University Logos. So now my super redneck beer drinking, Rush Limbaugh loving, pro-Iraq Republican brother in law is now traveling across the country to the various metro gay pride celebrations, parades, etc, selling these gay pride flag reflector logos to gay merchants and doing a pretty good business.

The irony here is so rich.

Does your bro-in-law dislike or hate gays or something? To me the beauty of capitalism and free markets etc. (very simplistically) is its about making money not about discriminating. If I want to make money I'm going to do business with everyone; white, black, yellow, brown, purple, blue, gay, straight, bi etc. One who limits themselves on the basis of their own discrimination is only hurting themselves.

This.

And it really is capitalism that helps open the lines of communication between people that at one point saw themselves as adversaries. When you start doing a civil business with people you held as wrong, beneath you, less than you, bad, you see that most of your biases were wrong.

Great story Mot.

Its just funny how exposuer to differnet people makes you lose your prejudice.

I posted this at another site and they keep deleting the thread.

Where did he say his brother had any prejudices against gays? Are we to assume because he's a Republican and supported the Iraq War that he hates gays or would never do business with them?

No it was more the Redneck part of it that led me to believe that. But hey I could be wrong.

Kind of funny how in politics this statement works the opposite. More exposure to the (left/right) makes people hate each other more.

if it is fringe WHY ARE YOU STILL TALKING ABOUT IT :pke:

Introduction to message boards.

Something happens...people talk bollocks about it...sometimes for a long time.

Something else happens...people talk about that instead.

Repeat.

Okay. So a protest 5 years ago about a wholesale unrelated issue drew significantly more people than the tea parties, thus the tea parties are a failure.

Tiananmen Square was the HUGE in 1989!!1!! ! 1! LOL @ the tea parties!!!!1

The Million Man March in 1995 RULED!!! LOL @ the tea parties1!

that's it minimalize the truth.

The topics are totally unrelated and one might dislocate her shoulder reaching this far to discredit what she pretends not to care about.

the simple truth is that Gays had a bigger turnout than the tea baggers. And in Texas too!

it is irony in its most simple form to claim something is nothing and then do nothing but talk about the nothing all the time

:)

If you're saying message boards are the internets equivalent of 'Seinfeld' then you'd be entirely correct. :)
