Another Tax Increase On Its Way

A bill expected to be introduced in the U.S. Congress as early as Monday would rewrite the ground rules for mail order and Internet sales by eliminating what its supporters view as a "loophole" that, in many cases, allows Americans to shop over the Internet without paying sales taxes.

Currently, Americans who shop over the Internet from out-of-state vendors aren't always required to pay sales taxes at the time of purchase. Californians buying books from Amazon.com or cameras from Manhattan's B&H Photo, for example, won't pay sales taxes at checkout time that they would if shopping at a local mall.

"We will have the bill ready for introduction by next Monday," said Neal Osten of the National Conference of State Legislatures. "We finalized the language and now we're working out the remaining issues and adding some new provisions at the request of various stakeholders."

LOL

Not to worry. Obama pledged that he would not raise taxes on anyone making < 250k

And no, people shouldn't be able to avoid sales tax by shopping online. That's unfair to retail shoppers and I see no reason why anyone should complain about it. If you have a problem with sales taxes, take it up with the sales tax itself, not the attempt to make it fairer.

Could you please list the "other" tax increases?

President Obama yesterday signed into law H.R. 2, a 4-1/2 year reauthorization of the Children's Health Insurance Program (formerly State Children's Health Insurance Program).

this law breaks President Obama's campaign pledge that "no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase...not any of your taxes." According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 95.8% of tobacco expenditures are made by consumer units (people spending together) who earn under $150,000 a year. Essentially all of this tax increase will be paid by families earning less than $250,000, and probably those earning substantially less than that.

Alright.

A cigarette tax. (which, BTW, is more than made up for for a poor family by the tax BREAKS Obama has given them)
A 5% increase on those making above 250k a year.
A bill that aids states in collecting sales taxes from all sources equally.

Holy shit, how are we going to live? How can we eat, with these oppressive levels of taxation? How can Bill Gates send his children to college? Oh, doom and gloom. The world is coming to an end.

I'm sorry I don't have 10 years to spare and neither does anybody else I know, but if you're really interested feel free to read the 3 million+ words in the current income tax code and then move on to all the other umpteen taxes that the average american has to pay tribute to Washington Crooks...er Politicians...

Safe to say that 50% of your labor is spent in slavery to the state and if the political system in Washington gets it's way it's only going to get FAR worse from here, sound pleasant to you ?

WAKE UP !

It doesn't take 10 years to list Obama's tax increases. It doesn't take even take 10 seconds. BTW, the average American does not pay 50% of their money in taxes, you ridiculous conservative simpleton.

WAKE UP !

LOL, yes my friend it does, or are you under the impression that deficits do not equal tax increases ? $1.75 TRILLION deficit and counting, do you think that isn't going to come from tax payers or are you under the impression that the public sector is actually productive?

BTW, the average American does not pay 50% of their money in taxes, you ridiculous conservative simpleton.
Yes thank you for the name calling, just confirms my suspicion that you really have no basis for your arguments, but I beg to differ, if you would take the time to do your homework you would indeed find that the average working American pays 50% of his/her income (labor) just to be "governed" ... here's a hint try looking beyond the obvious BS that the media feeds you and start thinking like a rational (i.e. non neo-kenysian) economist and look for that which is not shoved right up your nose.

WAKE UP !
Indeed ... WAKE UP Citizen of the Republic, we the people are NOT your enemy , that state is .... join us... :D

Of course I'm under the impression that the public sector is productive, as is any major economist. If we did not have a stimulus it would have a sever negative effect on the economy that would depress tax revenues to such an extent that we would have a debt GREATER with no stimulus than with one. You also seem to be under the absurd impression that all of our debt magically has to be payed off at once. Much of it will be eaten up by inflation, and if we'd balance the budget once we've fought off the depression debt would be manageable in no time. There is absolutely no reason for tax increases.

No it doesn't.

I find it difficult to believe that a government that spends 35% of GDP (including deficit spending) could wind up with an average 50% tax on its citizens and corporations. But whatever. Facts are a little inconvenient when your trying to make up a massive right-wing rant. Better to make shit up that sounds good, eh?

Neo-keynesians are the only rational economists left. The rest just make up shit to justify their idiotic right wing preconceived notions.

Indeed ... WAKE UP Citizen of the Republic, we the people are NOT your enemy , that state is .... join us... :D

ROFLWTIME ! this equivalent to saying that you believe that Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are real, what do you suppose the public sector "produces" in this fantasy economic system of yours ? what are the inputs ? how does the value chain work ? I'm really interested since I've read the works of many economists and earned a degree in the field and never heard any serious scholar on the subject ever assert that "the public sector is productive" (not even Keynes), heck maybe you're on the verge of a major breakthrough in the field, or maybe you should do a bit more homework ?

If we did not have a stimulus it would have a sever negative effect on the economy that would depress tax revenues to such an extent that we would have a debt GREATER with no stimulus than with one.
Yes except you assume "stimulus" just because the gub'ment tells you "stimulus", of course you totally miss that is was gub'ment intervention in the economy that CAUSED THIS MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE (risk reallocation via implict government guarantees to Freddie and Fannie, CRA, artificial low interest rates and montery inflation), you're "stimulus" is essentially an attempt to cure the problem with more of the problem and foist the cost of buying votes into the future, s.... stop talking to me like I don't how to do economic analysis , mmmkkkayyy ?

You also seem to be under the absurd impression that all of our debt magically has to be payed off at once.
No, you're the one that is under the ABSURD IMPRESSION that the cure for excessive debt is more debt and monetary inflation, again get over your allergic reaction to history books and maybe er.. I dunno read something about the Weimar Republic and find out how well that formula worked for them in 1922.

Much of it will be eaten up by inflation,
No shit SHERLOCK that's the fuckin' problem .....or do you relish the destruction of the dollar to achieve stupid ends ?

and if we'd balance the budget
We'd .. LOL! If I had my way the budget would have been "balanced" A LONG FUCKING TIME AGO, but apparently you think the appropriate response to an economic crisis brought on by federal interventionalism is to go PLAIN FUCKIN STUPID and add more of the same behavior that got you there in the first place, guess what "repeating the same behavior and expecting a different result" is definition of ?

once we've fought off the depression debt would be manageable in no time. There is absolutely no reason for tax increases.
Yeah I guess the fed will just conjure more dollars from the magic printing press fairy and it will have absolutely no effect on the value of the USD, graduate of the Peter Pan School of Economics I Presume ?

No it doesn't.
Yes (despite your drug induced denial of economic reality) it does...

I find it difficult to believe that a government that spends 35% of GDP (including deficit spending) could wind up with an average 50% tax on its citizens and corporations.
Me too on both counts, but that is reality, deal with it, or continue to make a fool of yourself denying the facts in front of people that know the truth.... your choice.

Neo-keynesians are the only rational economists left.
Wow so you choose to remain willfully ignorant of economics, good luck...

The rest just make up shit to justify their idiotic right wing preconceived notions.

Yeah apparently you and "the right wing" apparently have that trait in common "making shit up"

Welcome to the ranks of "Destroyed" ... here's a clue , next time you wanna debate economics with me , bring your "A" game 'cause this left winger non-sense you've spouted here will not elicit a response in the future (I don't pick on retards twice) ...

Lesson 101: how to eliminate trash

Stopped reading.

Post deemed unworthy of rational response.

Of course that's the typical response of the uninformed ... but if you'd still like that course on why Santa and the Easter Bunny aren't real, lemme know, I'll send you the URL to my kid's website.....

You uniformed masses are so cute in your own "I think I understand Economics but I don't" way .... ;)
