Texas: Time to get rid of it.

First, I imagine that relations between the United States and the newly independent Texas would not be peaches and cream and that the US would impose extremely harsh punitive sanctions on the fledgling state such that economic activity between Texas and the US would be non-existent. Think about the implications of that for a while and get back to me.

Now lets look at the other side of the sanctions war that would occur if the US were to do as you suggest...

1/3 of the known US oil supply.... GONE
1/5 of oil production and 1/3 of Nat Gas production in the US.... GONE
Top cattle producing state (roughly 20%)..... GONE
Top Cotton producting state (roughly 30%).... GONE
Top producer of fertilizers and other chemicals for farming.... GONE

TX manufacturers
1) its cotton into cotton cloth
2) Food processing plants
3) Electronics
4) Chemicals

Texas also is a leading producer of cement, gravel, sand, lime...

Then bring in the fact that in addition to the livestock, TX also has access to the Gulf's supply of trout, snapper, oysters, clams etc...

yeah, it would be a great idea for the US to start a sanctions war against TX.

You're deluded.

No, the deluded one is the one who said it was "time to let Texas go". We're just taking the premise to its full conclusion. Would Texas be able to survive?

Clearly it would, and probably very well indeed.

Yes, I'm sure Texas would survive very well indeed if it seceded from the Union. Christ on a crucifix you guys are on a fucking roll!

Hey, Dung. Pssst... I said, if we "let it go" or "got rid of it" as the original post stated.

Can you say "Obvious Straw Man"? I know you can.... it seems to be the only option for "argument" from you lately...

Either you have no reading comprehension or you are being deliberately obtuse in hopes we won't recognize a straw man so hastily constructed it fell before anybody got to look at it.

Now are you deluded too? Should we just "let go" about 1/3 of production of so many necessary items?

You're deluded.

You are a fucking moron. You like spouting off with idiotic comments above... yet fail completely to ever explain WHY you disagree. That is usually a sign of either a moron or someone who knows they are wrong and is too much of a hack to admit it.

So which is it Dung? Obviously my guess is that you are simply a fucking moron.

If you have nothing that they need and can't get elsewhere, then why in the hell would they care about your 'sanctions'?

I know that your being a complete tool and hack doesn't allow you to formulate your own thoughts. So please, take this to your leaders at moveon.moron and ask them how you should respond.

Yes, the would certainly be able to do so. We are not suggesting that they ARE going to secede.... we simply addressed the morons on this thread such as yourself who posted idiotic articles telling us 'how bad TX would have it on their own'.

Then, when you realize the fact that TX has the ability to be self sufficient, you go off on your little temper tantrum stomping your feet telling us how 'deluded' WE are.

You failed to address ANY of the points against your idiocy because you have nothing. Do yourself a favor.... admit you are wrong and move on. Or I suppose if you are too stubborn, you could always continue playing the part of the fool.... because you do perform quite well at the task.

It's arguable both ways but it's pretty funny that you think it's an open-and-shut case.

Actually, the only scenario where TX might suffer is if the US took military action against TX AFTER it 'let it go'. Even then, it might be ok.

Obviously this is all hypothetical and not likely to ever occur. But to pretend that one of the most self sufficient states in the union couldn't survive on its own is ridiculous.

I'm not inclined to debate this anymore because it is so fucking stupid. If you want to proclaim victory because you posted some facts about the present Texan economy that doesn't take into account the money Texas would have to spend to raise an army to protect its borders and no trade with its neighbor to the north feel free (not to mention other NAFTA and CAFTA states that, in picking between Texas and the United States would, and I'm only guessing here, side with the United States. I'm sure that trade with Cuba and Venezuela will take up the slack).

Have at it.

reminds me of the guy who refused to debate concealed carry on campus because its just insane. no counterargument with facts, just insane. or in other words, he could not defeat the argument.

We have our own military here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_State_Guard
and there's probably close to a million more of us that would join up IF secession were to occur. I know I would.

Again, economic treaties will either fail or succeed on the economy of the countries with the trade requirement. If the US were to offer the same things that TX could at much lower prices than TX, well you'll just end up with more angry people on the US side of things as either the provider of those commodities would get paid less or taxpayers would pay more due to the subsidizing necessary to offset the prices.

Other day I told some Texican to get his herd of cows the hell off my property. He got all red in the face and hollered "That aint no herd! That's my wife!"

I'd a yelled back at him but was skeered I might spook her and start a stampede.

I see a lot of that around here. They won't enter the debate because hey know they'll get their asses handed to them.

What a lot of the detractors seem to be missing, is that there would probably be other States that might just follow suit and if they happened to be States that border Texas; then what would happen if they joined together.

I don't remember seeing all of the same replies, when some of the anti-right talked of the same thing when President Bush was in office.
