Looks like a bunch of middle aged white people that dragged their poor children along with them.
You must have been looking in the wrong area of the crowd.......we're fat in the South. As to the tea parties, the ones shown on the local news here showed a pretty large, ethnicly and age diverse group of people making a peaceful protest to high taxes and government waste. I could agree with most of them.
But it does make one wonder, where were these people during the GW Bush years. I voted for him the first time and though I didn't vote for him the second time I don't hate him like some here. I like several of the things he did. But he (and the congress he oversaw) was no better at curbing government waste than Al Franken or any other extreme liberal would be.

Oh they might well do if you add in all of them. However, it has to be said that the Sri Lankan protest in London wasn't something which anyone would pretend had gripped the national psyche in any way whatsoever. Most of the marchers were Tamils and most Britons wouldn't have known it was happening until it was over.
I thought these Tea things were advertised well in advance on TV and radio and yet, even in a major metropolis, they couldn't produce numbers of any significance for an issue which is supposed to have struck a chord with ordinary Americans up and down the country?

I was photographing the crowd in general and some specific signs, but there were many folks between 18-29 range there.

Lots of youngin's in Winston-Salem. Very well balanced with respect to age. And a good looking crowd, too. Didn't see a single fat person.
You might want to relook your photos, several overweight ones in the first couple of photos.

The numbers will be out sometime today. We had over 5000 at noon, significant since many came out on their lunch breaks or had to take a day off work. There were an estimated 40 events in WA taking place all during the day. People can be dismissive all they want. What else can they be while living in such denial?
