Let’s be honest about who Rush Limbaugh really was

There’s no point tiptoeing round the legacy of a man known for his racism, misogyny and homophobia

As in the aftermath of any public death, there were immediate calls for “respect” and “civility” as people urged others to consider the thoughts, feelings, and grief of his family. Needless to say, celebrating anyone’s death — including his — would be wildly inappropriate, and his family’s privacy should be recognized.

But it’s also important to talk about who Limbaugh really was. Because the only way to truly pay our respects to the radio host, who reached more than 15 million listeners during his 30-year talk radio career, is to remember exactly who he was and the legacy he left behind— one of divisiveness, cruelty, racism, homophobia, bigotry, and sexism. This was prejudice and callousness that he not only encouraged but reveled in.

The harm Limbaugh caused during his career is vast and difficult to quantify, but it can be seen in nearly every facet of our current political climate. He intentionally harmed marginalized communities. He sowed division with cold-hearted precision. He upheld the tenets of white supremacy, bigotry, and sexism. To pretend otherwise would be cowardly and morally wrong.

All great points, but I think Rush, while a nasty man who deserves to suffer for the hate he spread, was more like Trump: He didn't cause something as much as cash in on it.

RW radio soared like a rocket in the US, especially in the 1990s. Why? I don't know, but I think it's giving Rush to much credit to say it's because of him. He's just a parasite who fed off of the hate and anger.

Yes, he certainly helped spread it, but IMO, it was already there.

What does that have to do with Rush Limburger?

Nothing. It's Trumpian smoke and mirrors.

Just look at this "piss on the grave" POS!
Rush Limbaugh was OK in my book.
I do not like Hannity. I enjoyed Rush, he told it like it is, as far as he saw it.

guno is a POS for starting this thread.

Did he threaten to murder someone like you threatened me?

I will put a bullet right in between your eyes or in between your eye and ear just like a gator and that will end you, you fucking POS!
At least you admit you're a traitorous POS.
As to your character? Yeah, it needs to die.
I think the election was stolen, and there's nothing I can do about it.
Give me a reason to do something about it, boy.
Like..1/2 inch higher than right between your eyes and you won't worry about it anymore.
