WAKE UP CALL: TEXAS GOV. BACKS RESOLUTION AFFIRMING SOVEREIGNTY
Tue Apr 14 2009 08:44:54 ET

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”

Perry continued: "Millions of Texans are tired of Washington, DC trying to come down here to tell us how to run Texas."

A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government’s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states’ right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.

It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties, or that requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding, be prohibited or repealed.

Perry has done one hell of a good job in Texas.

just out of curiosity, what do you find so hilarious about this?

Desperation.

That's what I find so hilarious about this.

Tea parties, states rights, granny get your gun.

That's what I find hilarious.

These are the acts of desperate people who are watching their ideology slipping away. No matter how much they scream and holler, twist and turn, and invoke the name of Jesus, they can't stop the inevitable evolution of this country.

Nothing they whine about affects me or most people in this country .. it only affects them.

Admitedly, I'm enjoying the anguish of the right.

Lol please secede. I used to live in Texarkana and wouldn't be sad to see Texas leave the Union forever. I hate that place. Except my time in basic training there. That was actually fun.

and just so you don't continue to be stuck on the 'it's a right wing thing', check out how many blue states are there.

No we are laughing that you ONLY care about anything because now its not a republican at the helm.

you just can't get over the idea that there might actually be Americans who aren't either left or right, can you? How does your brain comprehend more than two dimensions?

State legislators have varying reasons for considering this legislation from economic to the freedom to decriminalize drugs, however, my point is more specific to Perry, Texas, and some of the other southern states that see this as an extension of the arguments of the Civil War.

There is no need for ME to wake up my brother because I don't really give a rat's ass about the outcomes of this nonsense. Much of this centers around the issue of gay marriage and rights .. which like the Civil War, has already been lost for those who oppose it.

ah, it's cool to you that blue or northern states want this because they just aren't as stupid as red/southern states.

tell me, how do you feel about your 'people' in california after they voted to sustain a gay marriage ban amendment?

The fact you have actual American citizens who think it's a joke to want to protect the Republic from a power grabbing central government shows just how far away from our constitution we have shifted.

:)

Oh God save us.

Change is bad.

Take us back hundreds and hundreds of years into the past.

That's where our future lies .. hundreds of years in the past.

:)

This is great. I suppose Perry will be returning any federal aid the state received to fight those wildfires they had down there. Right?

really? tell me what i am and why that is because I need someone as wise as you to tell me. apparently I have no clue other than i'm a far right winger. please, enlighten me.

That's the easy question brother.

ALL your posts attack Obama, the left, and liberals.

Nary a bad word about your own side of the fence.

Libertarians are for the most part, just disaffected republicans.

Calling themselves "libertarian" is a safe place to hide .. much like liberals who started calling themselves "progressives" to hide from attacks on liberals.
