They weren't goths or loners.

The two teenagers who killed 13 people and themselves at suburban Denver's Columbine High School 10 years ago next week weren't in the "Trenchcoat Mafia," disaffected videogamers who wore cowboy dusters. The killings ignited a national debate over bullying, but the record now shows Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold hadn't been bullied — in fact, they had bragged in diaries about picking on freshmen and "fags."

Contrary to early reports, Harris and Klebold weren't on antidepressant medication and didn't target jocks, blacks or Christians, police now say, citing the killers' journals and witness accounts. That story about a student being shot in the head after she said she believed in God? Never happened, the FBI says now.

Interesting story - I wonder how the tale about the girl came about. I had come to admire her greatly as a modern day martyr.

Out of curiosity, what is civilized about a molotov cocktail?
 
Very good point here:

At the time, Columbine became a kind of giant national Rorschach test. Observers saw its genesis in just about everything: lax parenting, lax gun laws, progressive schooling, repressive school culture, violent video games, antidepressant drugs and rock 'n' roll, for starters.

everyone KNOWS that harris and klebold wouldn't have killed anyone if they hadn't been able to get hold of evil guns. :p

Christians thought they get just that, a modern day martyr, look at how bad the world has gone because of the liberals. Christians attacked in a highschool. Shit I remember hearing the statements. But it was all bullshit. She was just a victim, and not selected because she believed in the talking snake.

And there is nothing civilized about a molotov cocktail.

No one ever believed me when I argued that they weren't bullied teenagers lashing out.

They were clearly conservatives who had no respect for human life.

That said, I had always assumed that they were unbalanced, and would have shot her even if she said "no." My assumption was they were just toying with her, but I still admired her for standing firm... As DQ would say, oh well...
 
I forgot. I was going to post a blog on this today, specifically talking about the fact that they were not "bullied" and weren't after "jocks" like most people assume, then going into the fact that their main weapon malfunctioned and it wasn't the guns. Even though they had tested the ignition devices many times with positive results on the tapes, the bomb that would have killed hundreds in seconds, and the secondary bombs in the parking (aimed at wreaking havoc among the responding police) lot misfired.

There is no doubt in my mind they were Christians. Only a Christians and conservatives could believe in randomly killing other human beings without cause. They would have shot her if she had said no only because they would have been so angry with her.

If they had been Christians, they would have had very nosy parents that would have figured out what was going on in their lives. That, and the fact that they were probably gay...

That's only true because they were so inept at wiring bombs. They believed that they were prepared, apparently.

I just read the entire story; it was well done.
 
One of the interesting points to me was that a lack of money kept them from doing something much worse, or at least something with a higher body-count.
