The Religious and Gun Violence

Now watch this:

That girl is the individual he killed in class before turning the gun on himself.

Powell's videos almost entirely revolve around hating atheists and evolution.

Tragic and absolutely unbelievable. I'm not suggesting this guy's religious bent led him to do this. There are plenty of non-religious individuals who perpetrate violence.

Consider for a moment the rash of shootings that we've seen since the Republicans lost the election and went off the deep end.

I predict that the gun haters and gun hating media will sensationalize every single non justifiable shooting from now until they feel they have enough support to enact the next great gun ban, at which point they'll lose the house and senate again and be left wondering WTF just happened.

You don't have to be a gun hater to recognize the need for smart regulations. I'm a gun owner myself, but I don't fetishize them like you do.

This is more an indictment on the religious then it is of gun owners. Regulations short of a total ban (which is unreasonable) couldn't have prevented this tragedy. However, this guy was mentally disturbed and also happened to be a religious nut.

but then we're left debating about what is considered 'smart' and what isn't. The biggest problem being those who don't know jack shit about guns or laws, but demanding that something be done.

what makes you think I fetishize and fantasize about guns? I'm a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment, thats it.

I'll agree that religion and religious fanaticism has produced a lot of fucktards, which can lead to whacked out episodes of violence. One thing i've learned though, is that no amount of debate, argument, laws, or psychoanalytic therapy is going to fix a fanatic.

The greatest weapon against fanaticism in this country would be to increase spending on science education early in life.

God bless my gun. All infidels must die! From the non Islamic side of the fence.

Remember Jericho? God ordered his people to kill all who did not flee before them. Women and children too.
We must keep up Gods work.

Gun regulations are a non-starter. The 40% or so of America that is anti-gun control is rabid about it, and will absolutely vote against anyone who is pro-gun control. Pro-gun control people aren't the same way. Our winner take all system pretty effectively discourages gun control.

i don't see what this has to do with religion. if an atheist commits a crime do you stop and wonder what went wrong with a belief in no religion or a god? my guess is, no.

years ago, you could tie some horrific gruesome murder rampage up in to a neat little package and label it as a cult killing. Nowadays, it's harder to do that because then the liberals might actually have to consider that god exists in order to acquit the psycho.

The gun show loophole needs to be tightened up.
You can buy guns at these gun shows in many states without even showing ID.

I am pro gun control. Gun control which I consider necessary considering humans. Gun control such as felon check, mental illness check, etc.

Btw I have many guns and a concealed carry permit. I do not hunt.

I'm afraid I see absolutely no difference between those that worship guns and use all the old arguments to justify their lunacy and this young man. No difference at all.
If you want to own a gun, as an ordinary citizen, you are without any question, barking mad .... or maybe American!

Guilty of being an American. Sorry I was born that way, a genetic disease I suppose.

Yep I am pretty barking mad no doubt about it.

I am also a drafted Viet Nam Combat Vet. And Anti War. But my guns keep me warm at night. A little lumpy though. Do they make padded guns?

Waht political environ were you born into?

I was born into English conservatism but realised in my late teens that real life has no room for such nonsense. My first vote at 18 was for the labour party and has never changed. I believe in a society in which all have equal opportunities, where success is rewarded but failure is not punished. Free health care and free education for all. I believe that power is never simply given by those who have it, but that it must be taken by the people whose nation it is. True democracy.
Hope that answers your question. It's early in the morning and I have not had my caffeine injection yet.

And you are voting for LABOUR to achieve these goals?

In your society, power was given by the monarch to the parliament.
