Covid-19 has not yet reached a the steady state that it would need to in order to be endemic. Let's hope it does not.

Could we have changed the ultimate outcome with early testing? Many other countries were able to, so why couldn't trump?

no not "many", and none with borders like ours..
since it's mutating, it's a safe bet the Wu-Flu is with us for the long run

We border two countries, and those two countries are almost as isolated as we are. The danger is air travel, not land borders.

By the way, Hong Kong has an actual land border with China. Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea have more air travel with China than we do. Australia and New Zealand have more per capita air travel with China than we do.

And then there is a China... It is more connected to China than any other country, because it is China. And yet they have had far more success than we have. I would not want to copy their totalitarian methods, but success is possible.

Everything mutates, but the WHO was able to wipe out Smallpox, and nearly wipe out Polio. Diseases like Malaria, which used to really be endemic in many parts of America are now extremely rare. It is possible to defeat Covid-19.

The Alt Right defeatism is just a defense of trump's failure. trump could not defeat Covid-19, so the trump worshippers claim no one can. It will take months to turn the corner on Covid-19, and years to actually get it done, but it is possible.
 
The First Amendment give us the right to express our opinions without getting arrested or sued for it.

Technical point aside, the virus was sufficiently prevalent [that better?] in our population by the time Trump, the CDC or etc was going to change anything in terms of ultimate outcomes. IOW, we’d be in the same spot we are today had Obama his own self still been president.

And the PCR tests were junk early in the game. The WHO *is just now* recognizing that they were being over cycled to produce a high rate of false positives—so they revised their cycling guidelines.

And guess what? Our numbers are dropping. Imagine that. Just in time to credit The Big Guy and his Magic COVID Wand for it.

Even if there was a high rate of false positives, that would not matter. We needed to find the asymptomatic super spreaders, when there was some hope of quarantining them. trump failed.

If Covid-19 does become endemic, as you claim, it will knock about 5 to 10 years off life expectancies. It will be one of the worst health failures in hundreds of years. It may well be the end of America.

Obviously, we should work as hard as we can to save billions of lives, trillions of dollars, and America itself.

You’re talking about a narrow window of opportunity when the testing every Tom Dick and Harry *may have* averted calamity. But that window had already passed by the time Trump, Fauci or whoever, was aware of it.

What western democracy was able to ‘isolate super spreaders’ in February or March and avert their epidemic?

Or maybe a China style ‘lockdown’ where infected individuals were sealed inside their homes and left to die.

Also, COVID will be endemic at some point, in all probability.

Even under Trump, it would be impossible to test every illegal alien for being a super spreader because so many were able to sneak in. Under Biden, forget about it.

Germany has the most porous borders possible. All its borders are completely open.
