Spurred by the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, protesters took to the streets in Madison on Monday; arrests began when some protesters lit fires in dumpsters, hit officers with rocks and other objects and shattered windows. The State Capitol was among the buildings damaged.
Police said about 500 people attended the protests. More protest activity was expected Tuesday, including a march for Black Lives Matter and subsequent candlelight vigil at the Capitol from 6 to 9 p.m., organized by Freedom Inc.
State Sen. Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) said that the damage to his office at the Capitol was similar to the damage of nearly two months ago, when windows in his office were smashed during the protests after the death of George Floyd.

A republic is government by constitution. It has representatives, elected by the processes specified in that constitution, and having powers and authorities likewise specified in that constitution. The constitution remains in the hands of it's creators. It is not controllable by the agents created by that constitution.
A dictatorship (or monarch) is government by a king (or queen). It may or may not have a feudal structure, but it does have a royal court, conducting the day to day affairs. It may or may not have a 'parliment' of royals to assist the king or queen.
An oligarchy is dictatorship by committee. This was the structure used in the latter part of the USSR, and is still the structure used in the Soviet Union today.
The last attempt at a democracy ended with infighting and eventual dissolution into various mobs attempting to gain control and establish a dictatorship. This was CHAZ in Seattle. It lasted only one month. It controlled an area of about six city blocks. The cleanup of the filth afterwards was incredible, requiring TWO full sized garbage trucks to haul the filth away.
