Hey buddy....you defended this slimy bastard the last time .....

He called the troops cowards for bombing from 30,000 ft. or firing missiles from 30 miles or something like that....remember?

You gonna follow suit and defend him this time also....I can't wait to see how you spin it....Maher is one of your heros....

Yeah, I would have guessed that IB, but I want to hear from Maineman ...
I wanted to get a grownup's take on it....thanks anyway:gives:

It is in poor taste. I disapprove of it.

It would be in even POORER taste if American military personnel had not previously been tried and convicted for raping Japanese and German citizens, however.

When did this happen? Is it a few sick individuals or an actual military operation?

Silly question. The US military would never have a military operation that required our troops to rape anyone.

So the occasional (and relatively rare) military person stationed in Germany or Japan was convicted of rape?

Or is it something more?

That wasn't funny in the least.

I don't usually feel that comedians owe people apologies for stupid things they say, but this time is an exception.

Immie

It would huh-larious if the Democrats made him an honorary congressional member as the Republicans did with Rush in the early 90s.

I will defend Bill Maher...not that he needs defending.

He's funny. And he was basing the joke on facts. Bill Maher is a comedian commentator, after all, and I think his humor can be very useful in provoking people to ask questions and hold leaders accountable in ways they otherwise would not.

I certainly didn't see the joke as being directed at all of our troops. The cited rapes (which were criminal acts carried out, not military operations), which are factual, are sarcastically presented as the purpose of the military presence. As opposed to the obvious word to fit the sentence, which would be defending themselves.

This is to highlight the fact that the actual purpose of the military presence is not a particularly useful one.

and a lifetime pension just like the shoe thrower.

Thats fabulous kiddies....watermark and Ib never disappoint me....I say write to your congressmen, write to Polosi ....
congressional medal of honor and an honorary congressional member for Maher....I see no reason why it couldn't come true....

and my thanx to mm....he also comes through..."American military personnel had not previously been tried and convicted for raping Japanese and German citizens???"
Tell us all about those American military personnel maine...those rapists....how about baby killers? Thats usually a good label too....tell us how you really feel.....you can probably get J. Kerry to help you with a speech on that topic....don't forget the war crimes, that goes over big too....

more citizens rape than the military in japan, but yoiu don't hear mahre and his cohort MM talking about that

That's not what the joke is about. The joke is about the US military being based endlessly in parts of the world it doesn't need to be.

It makes fun of something senseless or hypocritical. Do you think he and his writers came up with this joke thinking "Hm, I wonder what kind of joke we can tell that would denigrate the troops?"

People on the right who complain all too often about how political correctness is destroying America show their own hypocrisy when they can't take a joke or let people just say what's on their mind.
