They were overwhelmed and egged on by the President of the United States..who controlled the National Guard via the Pentagon. No doubt the Monday Morning Quarterbacks will identify all the mistakes made but this would have have happened if Trump hadn't asked a mob to follow him to the Capitol and take back their country.

We need huge police reform in this country, the focus needs to shift from force and authoritarianism.

Sure there needs to be a small department that carries guns and is enabled to get involved in such situations as require it, but it needs to not be all police that carry a gun.

I had a gun pulled on me by a cop for a parking citation a few months ago.

True, but that has NOTHING to do with the FACT that you had a mob of insurrectionist storm the Capitol and force their way in. Pipe bombs were reported to be found in the area, and these yahoos were using anything they could pick up as a weapon/tool to break in. The cops, for better or worse, were wholly justified to use deadly force, as they were out numbered and were not clairvoyant as to the mob's true intentions or what things could escalate to. Of course, our right wing rummies on this thread just ignore the Fact that cop died as well.

Having a toy gun is called not being armed. A kid playing in a park gets no warning, but an adult attacking the US Government gets dozens of warnings?

Carrying a gun is legal and is not an assault or an imminent threat to anything.
