Agreed. OTOH, proof that a person is sincere is harder to grasp based solely on their text claims. The verification of a "friend" can just as easily be a lie as the initial claim.

In the forum world, only their long-term "personality" of posts, the general weight of their demeanor has value. Is a person fun-loving or "super serial". Do they continually lie about their opponents and blame them for things while remaining silent about the actions of their friends. Sure, I get the "praise in public, admonish in private" thing, but do they do so? Do they really admonish their "friends" in private? Or do they just go along to get along?

If they do, won't the attitude reflect in their own posts?
