I do think that in politics, it is acceptable for politicians to escape prosecution so long as a reasonable amount of acolytes and enablers are toppled, leading to irrefutable documentation of the facts. For one thing, it works, with regard to objectives, such as winning (such as with the Mueller investigation getting associates on unrelated crimes). It also helps to maintain the safety and security of our republic. Imagine if the nation were like Illinois, and every former chief executive was always going to prison?
