Really, Is being Pro Life against abortion under any circumstance really pro life when it gaurentees some women will die that do not want to and could choose otherwise? Do fetuses have choices? Do they have a say in the matter? Is it really a choice to have an abortion if you know having the baby will kill or horribly maim you? Is it ok when you know it won't?

Am I pro gay marriage if I'm for civil unions which gives them the exact same rights but doesn't use the term marriage? Is that a principled stance for my religious belief or is it moral cowardice? Aren't the arguments against gay marriage the same as those that were used against interacial marriage? If you're opposed to gay marriage does that make you, by proxy, opposed to interacial marriage since it is the same logic? Either way wouldn't you be a bigot?

There's something fundamentally wrong with this statement. What's wrong with being pro-government? What's right with less government? Is it good to believe in less government if it means less services such as building roads and bridges and hospitals and schools? Is it good to believe in less government if it means a small handfull of plutocrats rule our lives with out appropriate levels of checks and balances? Is it good to believe in less government if that means ineffective and ineficient government? Is it bad to be Pro-Government if you believe effective and efficient governance is damned important for a prosperous and civilized society?

So if you believe in the US Constitution are you against school prayer? If you believe that religious instruction of your children is a personal matter you don't want the public involved with are you against school prayer? Are you really for school prayer if you have to formally sanction it behind a particular belief system? Are you really for school prayer if the kids in school can't pray when they want, to whom they want in any religious belief they want or even none if that's what they believe?

Really? Do you really believe in conservative principles if you believe in the principles of politicos like the neo-cons, Rush Limbaugh? Jerry Falwell? The Religious Right? Wouldn't you be a political reactionary and not a true conservative? Are you believing in conservative principles if you believe in the principle of liberal democracy and it's personal freedoms that this nation was founded on? Do you really beleive in liberal principles if you're a socialist? Doesn't that require sacrificing the liberties of the individual for the good of the group? How could this be liberal?

In almost every aspect of society, there is a clear BLACK or WHITE side, and it is represented by either Democrats or Republicans. This country is essentially split down the middle... Black or White, there is not a Grey!

Now, maybe there should be... maybe the world would be a better place if there were, but the fact of the matter is, there isn't, and there isn't likely to be, anytime in our near future. The issues above are too sharply divided, there is no room to compromise either way. Any compromise, is a willing surrender of the issue to the other side. To me, these issues are far to important to surrender or compromise. Could there be compromise? Perhaps, but it requires BOTH sides willing to give up some level of principle, and neither side is interested in that! In my opinion, and I've been blasted for this before, we are coming down to a Cultural Civil War over these things, because neither side is willing to give an inch. Perhaps when the bloodshed claims a few hundred thousands or maybe even a million American lives, the two sides can come to some reasonable compromise? As it stands now, we have two political parties, each representing one of the two Black or White sides of these issues, and we must decide which side stands for the majority of what we believe is right. Because, it's either that, or ammo the fuck up!
