The fingerprints have been around for longer than I've been alive. The DNA was just coming in during the early 90s. A Coasty conspiracy theorist in our Naval training squadron (a mix of services) made noises like you did about it, but you know Uncle Sugar always gets his way on matters like this. Consider this: Want to stop illegal immigration? Require biometric ID for getting a job or renting an apartment. Require all managers of jobs and rental (or real estate) services to be held accountable for letting anyone slip by without it. Schools and hospitals too.

Hospitals would still help people, but the patient would be met by authorities if they didn't check out as a lawful American or foreigner on a current visa.
