Obama Retreat on Iraq

Hahahaha! Leave it to Obama's followers to give him credit for something he didn't do!

Bush, NOT Obama negotiated the time-line that Obama has adopted. So, not only did Obama adopt this plan, but he kicked his own plan to the way side and is claiming Bush's for his own!!!

I'm not going to bother arguing historical fact with you.

Say's the man whose facts are nothing more than fiction.

Bush opposed setting any timetable for withdrawal.

Obama proposed a 16 month timetable for withdrawal.

The Iraqis agreed with Obama.

Bush grudgingly accepted and reversed course and agreed to a 19 month timetable.

Now, certainly, Obama is going along with the Bush Agreement, but the Bush Agreement stems from a reversal in Bush policy and the adoption of an agreement along the lines of what Obama had proposed all along.

Pre surge Bush opposed setting a timetable for withdrawal which according to conditions on the ground was the RIGHT thing to do. Funny how Obama now uses the "conditions on the ground argument" and it is now considered sound reasoning!

Obama set an untenable and naive timetable before even becoming president to appease the anti war crowd to win votes. Once in office he has since had to back-peddle and adopt the Bush plan for draw down that was established post surge ( a surge which Obama opposed).

(1) Post-surge Bush opposed a timetable as well, but Bush backed down on the timetable upon insistence from the Iraqis who agreed with Obama.

(2) Conditions on the ground was always part of the Obama formulation. You can pull up the first bill that he sponsored on troop withdrawal if you like.

(3) Obama did indeed change his tune on withdrawal by a grand total of three months. That doesn't move me much.

BS! Bush opposed a timetable until conditions on the ground post surge changed the situation and his commanders provided him with their analysis.

Obama changed more than just 3 months!!!!! He was going to have ALL troops out in 16 months! Now, he is leaving upwards of 50k troops their indefinitley. Again, the plan he has now adopted is the one decided on by Bush and the Iraqi government BEFORE Obama was elected and had any kind of say-so. In fact Obama attempted to sway the Iraqi government from agreeing to anything with the Bush administration regrading withdrawal.
The idea of a timeline for troop draw-down had been being negotiated months before one was established. Obama knew this and so developed a campaign stump that made it appear he and only he had some sort of vision for eventual withdrawal from Iraq...that's history and those are the facts.

He was briefed and whenever someone is briefed they have information they did not have prior to that and may need to adjust to the new information.

Bush told us years ago that the troops would never come home while he was president.

He knows he created a situation in which anyway we leave things will be bad.

That's nonsense. What follows is not necessarily for your consumption.

1) Bush rejected any sort of timetable for withdrawal through July of this year. The Iraqis refused any such agreement and the Bush Administration reluctantly agreed to the 19 month timetable. Around that time the Iraqis publicly said that they were favorable towards Obama's proposal.

2) At the time that Obama allegedly attempted to sway the Iraqis from signing anything with the Bush Administration it was still pushing for no timetable for withdrawal. Even assuming that the article is true, as of June 16, 2008, the Bush Administration still opposed any withdrawal timetables.

I wonder if there will be so many contortions a year from now, to reconcile what was 'promised', strike that, assumed by Obama supporters?

1) The Iraqi's didn't agree with Obama, and couldn't have agreed with Obama because Obama, a US Senator, had no authority to even be discussing the matter with the Iraqi's.

2) The Bush Administration began discussing an "exit strategy" for Iraq in early 2008, at about the same time Obama was calling for an IMMEDIATE unilateral withdrawal of all US forces... to the cheers of anti-war pinheads like yourself.

3) I told you, as far back as the Spring of 2008, even if the Democrats won the White House, the troops would be coming home from Iraq when the war was over, and not a day before.

4) Despite his anti-war pre-election rhetoric, Obama has committed another 15k troops to Iraq and 17k to Afghanistan through 2011.

5) You pinheads now want to somehow claim that the Bush exit strategy is the promise Obama reneged on, to "bring the troops home!" And I am laughing my ass off at that!
