2/3 of Americans want repeal of Bush tax cuts

Prove it. Show me how "small businesses" mostly fall in the top 1%. The idea that taxes prevent you from growing is retarded. Have you actually read any income statements before?

Yes I have sir and if you read my post you would recognize I said the majority of small businesses don't fall into the top 1%. My point was why punish those that do?

My proposal for tax reform is this: implement a 20% tax on all income exceeding $45,000, and a 30% tax on income over $1,000,000. The latter bracket would be repealed once the national debt is eliminated. This system is progressive, will generate more revenue, and will close many of the loopholes associated with the current system.

wow... that sounds vaguely familiar.... friggin thief...

No ones calling for anarchy troll boy. We need a government. We need to pay taxes. However we are nowhere near paying zero taxes today. Besides just state and federal income taxes how many taxes are out there that we pay? The list is endless. So the idea that wanting to lower these burdens is equal to wanting to pay no taxes is hollow.

The total level of government spending as % of GDP is about 30%, and has been for decades. The taxation is a little less than that, because a lot of spending is deficit. I don't care about the amount of individual taxes, but the total amount they collect, and for a rich American this is nowhere near the level of being overwhelming.

It's not punishment, they can afford it. If you think of it in terms of spending our military makes up the majority of the federal budget. It protects a disproportionate number of assets belonging to the top 1% so they can pay extra for the service charge. Sound good?

Actually the largest government expenditures go to S.S. and Medicare.

Of course the Constitutional duty of the government is to PROTECT the nation from our enemy....not distribute aspirin.....not to pay for anyones cellphone service

Protect the nation, including the assets of it's citizens. The rich have more to protect, they should pay more. No?

Yes, my first suggestion is to dramatically cut military spending because it's the bulk of the federal budget.

That is incorrect. In FY2008, the Medicare and Medicaid accounted for 23% (or $682 Billion) of the Federal budget, while defense spending accounted for 21%. I agree "defense" spending is too high. If the United States focused on defense rather than policing the world, I think we'd do just fine with $300 Billion.

What's your source? I was under the impression Medicare and Medicaid cost $595 billion in FY 2008. That being said, both SS and Medicare/Medicaid aren't discretionary spending, so I would consider them somewhat of a separate issue.

My source is the Congressional Budget Office.

I agree. Medicare/Medicaid & SS should operate as a "lock box" including a separate source of revenue, until both are privatized.
