My wife's "position eleminated" today.

Seriously STY, divorce your wife and get her the opperation.

If a society forces you as a person to do this to save her life than its worth the hassle.

Your love for each other is bigger than a court doc.

I would do it for my loved one.

luckily, I don't have to anymore. Amazingly, her ex-husband paid for it out of his companies budget. I'll give him huge props for that.

besides, in TX, the divorce preps would still cost a couple thousand. money I don't have.

Bless his heart ...um and hers too.

The fact remains it was the Rs who fought any real reform of our medical system which is a profit whore who cares nothing for just this type of situation.

neither side would have made good reform possible. Since her condition is a genetic one and the surgery would not have healed her, just improved her quality of life for awhile, it most likely would not have been covered.

That is just the kinda of thing that medicine deesigned from a health point instead fo a profit point would accomplish.

Profit is fine but the first and formost task of ANY medical system has to health first.

Think of a system designed arround preventative methods to save money for the situations like your dear wifes?

No more emergency room for basic care.

Its what the system will look like in a few years and any offspring your wife had will not face that mess if they inherit the same complications with their health.

let me be a little clearer. My wifes condition is genetic. Not due to lifestyle or accident or anything else. Her condition, which she will always have, is HyperTrophic Cardio Myopathy, which is medical terminology for an enlarged heart muscle. In the proposed national health care plan, a non curable, but treatable with limited recovery stands less likely a chance of being covered due mainly to the exorbitant costs of the procedure. The surgery itself was 250,000. Thats not including surgeons fees, hospital fees, and other equipment and personnel costs.

Its as if they dont understand that this would be covered medical under a universal system designed to a health point?

this is why people don't understand you liberals. we point out to you exactly what is going to happen but you just go on denying that it ever will. I don't get it. what is it about the liberals inability to come to terms with reality?

I recall a feature on Oregon's public health system some years ago. Various conditions were listed, rated, and prioritized in accordance with several criteria -- prognosis was one. Depending upon the budget for health care in any given year, a line was drawn at a point where the budget could not sustain the costs for conditions below that line. In other words, if you had one of those conditions, you were out of luck -- no coverage.

It's harsh, untenably so if you or a loved one falls into one of those excluded categories. I've suggested for years that in times of deprivation or potentially catastrophic economic outlook, compassion will be one of the first things to disappear from both public and private policy.

I'm wishing you and your wife the best quality time you can have, STY, for the longest you can possibly have it.

You no longer need a nanny. Your wife will be there.

True, until my wife gets a new job, the problem is we love the one we have and hate to disrupt the kids routine. If we get rid of her, she will move back to Costa Rica. Then when my wife gets a new job.... we would have to find someone new. This woman has been with us for three years. We really love her and consider her part of the family. She is like an hispanic Alice.

If its a system designed arround health then this would be covered.

Sound medical results, quality of life = covered.

Health is all just a quality of life and postponment of death game.

Sorry about your wife, jarod. But it is better it was her and not you. Since it's her, the bond of your family is strengthened, as you are magnified in here eyes as your provider. Had it been you, the bond would be weakened, she would be scared, and looking for better.

As much as the feminists like to deny it, work plays an entirely different role in a man's life, not because he wants, but because everyone wants it to be so. Deep down. Inside.

Thats not the way it works in my family. My would not be looking for better. She does not belive men have any more of a position as bread winner than women, and she does not see herself as any more of a care taker than me.

Now I am the sole bread winnner... damm this is stressfull.

I hope the economie turns around soon. I am finally feeling its affects. WE are going to have to do with $100,000 less until she finds a new job.

I'm sorry Jarod. I hope things turn around for you quickly.

I find it hard to believe a guy who can't spell economy has a wife who makes 100K a year...

I can spell Floccinaucinihilipilification on demand and it hasn't done me any good whatsoever.

Then again maybe Jarod's just got a massive nob?
