Greenspan puts down the Ayn Rand novel

"I see no alternative to a set of heightened federal regulatory rules for banks and other financial institutions," Greenspan said in a Tuesday evening speech to the Economic Club of New York, Reuters reported. He said he was "deeply dismayed" to realize in mid-2007 that the premise that firms were enlightened enough to monitor their own risks had "failed."

How I wish reality would enter more minds.

gee....nothing about forcing banks to loan to unqualified people, nothing about obama suing a bank(s) to force them to loan to minorities....

Why would anyone follow Ann Rand or LR Hubbard?

Ignerint sheeple.

Hardly. Anyones philosophy taken to extremes is asinine. Ayn Rand is quite correct on her assertions about classical philosophy, objectivism, rationalism and her debunking of the basic principles socialism is built on.

Thank you for that response. His response just showed ignorance.

No Ayn Rand isn't. Ayn Rand deserved a bullet hole in the head. It was a tragedy that Stalin never did her in, and killed honest socialists instead.

I just wish more would have the revelation Greenspan has had.

Her philosophies dont work folks, they are the dreams of self important person who failed to truely know human psycology.

The basic tenant was people do what is in their best interest. You disagree with that? If that wasn't the case things like socialism or communism would work.

And Greenspan didn't have any revelation. He said this is a once in a liftime, once in a century occurance and thus the call for such a drastic measure. It is not about him changing his overall beliefs or philsophy.

Green span has stepped away from the tennet of Rands ideas of libertarianism.

The corporate heads do not automatically self regulate to effect the greater good.

Why anyone would believe that for even one second is beyond me?

In a Libertarian society, market forces would determine interest rates, and there would probably be no Federal reserve. Greenspan was no Libertarian.

You're starting to sound like Dixie. Have you read Rand? She makes perfectly valid points on a number of topics. Is she absolutely right about absolutely everything? No but who is?

Socialism works in Sweden, capitalism fails in America. The fact is, everyone doing everything to their selifish interest leads to even more totalitarianism than Hitler, as people become little more than products.

Ayn Rand presented a series of superhuman characters who never had to worry about troubles that happen in real life, or poverty (they were always magically able to raise as much money as they wanted), and pitted them against stupid strawmen. Reading the Fountainhead is like getting shot in the head.
