Time To Recognize Who We Are; Reunite America

Hell some states have about 500 people in them total, most of them seemingly making reality survival shows and doing little else,
and they get 2 senators same as California with 30 million people and the 6th or 7th largest economy on the globe?

Proportional representation ought to be amended to the Constitution.

That was a recount, Earl. But if you oppose recounts in this election you won't find many Democrats who would disagree.

It was the Supreme Court preventing the counting of non-votes as Gore-votes, Marty.

The Democrats were caught cheating then just as they are now.

The Supreme Court will decide this election.

Oh, so now you want to reunite.

After the daily...hourly attacks on the president and his family, you want to reunite.

Perhaps you can “reunite” after cheering the economic loss of millions of Americans and their families caused by the virus from China that China failed to contain.

There will be no reuniting and Biden is not the president-elect.

The Supreme Court has not spoken.

Earl
The writing is on the wall. I am afraid Trump has lost. That said you shocked me with the following statement.

There will be no reuniting

Now you are sounding exactly like the left wing nut jobs when Trump was elected. It is time to do as JFK said ( I paraphrase) "Ask what you can do for your country."

Not one Electoral Vote has been given to anyone yet.

I am shocked that you would capitulate and accept an election where open cheating by Democrats is now the norm.

It isn’t.

Proportional representation ought to be amended to the Constitution.

I know one thing, the outsized power of the existing colonies when they set up the constitution in 1787
in no way resembles today's reality. California has a billion times more pop than Wyoming.
No such disparity existed when the accommodation was made and inked within the 13 colonies. There was a pop disparity, but not of this magnitude.
It no longer is a pragmatic accommodation, its now patently ridiculous. Talk about your affirmative action for whites and white privilege!

What I can do and all Republicans can do, for our country, is to never accept open cheating in a presidential election.

Slight push back. There was evidence of Russian tampering in the prior election and Hillary got 3 million more votes and Comey opened a criminal investigation
Oct surprise on Hillary like the week before the vote. Trump is losing by 9 million
votes. Biden will win by an electoral margin that Trump called a landslide when he got it. Talk about hypocrisy.

Goodbye Dachsund,

If you voted Democrat in the election, you voted for Platform (The DNC 2020 Official Platform) that was the most extreme left , racial social policy agenda in American history. FACT.

ANYONE who votes for a radical socialist agenda would have to be a fucking moron,

Why ?

Because full-blooded socialism has never once, in history, been successful. And It hasn't just failed, it has always failed DISASTEROUSLY, causing tremendous suffering, misery and destruction.

I cannot respect an American adult who is so fucking stupid or ignorant of history that they do not understand this. It boggles my mind.

IMO, there is no help for people like you - you MUST be afflicted with some kind of permanent psychological/psychiatric disorder. You cannot be salvaged. The big problem is that you are evidently legally allowed to vote. And this present a real danger to right-minded Americans who do not want to live in a Third World Hell. So ideally, you should be put down, because there are no probably no other practical means available at present to strip you of your eligibility to vote.

OK, I make it very clear that I want to have free and open discussions with anyone of any view as long as we have one understanding, that being out discussions must be conducted as civil discourse. I don't want to get into name-calling and animosity and I don't want it directed at me.

I hope you feel a whole lot better for having gotten how you really feel about me off your chest because that is the last thing I will ever read from you.

You become the latest example that I mean what I say in my PIP, particularly the part about no tolerance and no exceptions.

What you think is fact is actually nothing but opinion. Since you can't tell the difference there is no point in talking to you. I have no desire to be the target of the release of your frustrations.

I also wish you well, and hope you can resolve this frustration. Brooks got it right when he said we have to recognize what this country is, who we are and we have to learn how to live with one another. We are a deeply divided nation. The only way we can possible function like this is to agree to have meaningful discussions. What you have said was more like an expression of aggravation and blaming, and that's not helpful. I wish I could say that if you can manage to turn that around we could talk some more, but the nature of chat forums does not lend itself to that. For that reason I have to stand by my own strict rules for how I will conduct my presence here. That requires no second chances. I try to make this as clear as possible. Many are able to abide by that and really, the ones who cannot make it impossible to have functional discussions.

The last thing I want to do is get into a name-calling contest or an insult spree which accomplishes nothing. So even though it is no fun to have to do this, I break it off with you, but I do wish you well.

This communication has concluded.

Liar.

It’s approximately 4 million votes.

Hello Micawber,

I agree, but fat chance. These people have the back, above all else including country, of an asshole, single term, impeached, serial bankrupt, fraud university orchestrating, hypocritical,
incompetent, corrupt, racist, liar, confidence man, criminal and cheat. They have been inculcated in Fix News lies.

These yokels need deprogramming first in order to begin to love America.

I appreciate the sentiment that we need to ratchet down the animosity. Neither side is going away. We have to coexist.

The election is over.

Our nation has been torn apart by very different ideas. Not only do Americans disagree on what our government should do, we don't even agree on basic facts. That is because we now get our information from two entirely different streams of non-overlapping sources.

We are really two nations sharing one government and one land.

If that is not difficult enough, we have a lot of forces seeking to keep this division as polarized as possible, making great profits from whipping up hatred, and dehumanizing 'the other side.'

There is no pretending that we only disagree during election season and then go back to 'normal life' afterwards any more. It's like we are in constant election season and it never ends.

The best thing we can do is recognize that our fellow Americans do not share our beliefs but they do share our country.

We know that we have to live together.

The best thing we can do is to remember that we must share this country, and resign ourselves to accepting that it takes all of us to make America what it is.

Bitter hatred and disrespect is not helpful at all, accomplishes nothing, makes us dysfunctional.

We have big enough differences without adding hatred on top of everything else. We have to try to rise above that.

Our challenge is rediscover respect for one another.

If America is really great then part of that has to mean we respect all Americans. A hateful and bitterly divided nation cannot be great.

David Brooks:

"Well, if ever there was a campaign that was going to be a blowout, I thought this was it. I thought we had an unpopular president that people were ready to get rid of. I expected a large margin. And I was wrong. It's a 2.8 percentage margin nationally.

And so I think what we have learned is that we a very evenly divided nation, two groups of people in non-overlapping universes. For a time, it seemed — and I think people in both camps thought, well, the people on my team could eventually crush the people on the other team, and my team will get to rule.

I think we now have to face reality. That's just never going to happen. The other side is never going to go away. And we have got to find a way to live with each other.

And so, to me, that's the biggest takeaway of where we are right now."

That's the tone of this excellent discussion of where we stand as a nation:

Shields and Brooks on PBS Newshour

It's a nice theory but it's pie in the sky unrealistic. On one hand you have religious homophobic racists and on the other hand you have lgbtqia and atheists and equality and inclusive-minded people. The two philosophies are very very different

Hello Iolo/Penderyn,

I think that if America can be reunited, Biden is the man to do it, but if the fantasising of the extreme-right persons on here is anything to go by, Trump's grotesque behaviour is fueled by very wide-spread nuttiness that will make compromise difficult. I wonder can anything be done while the present methods of selecting candidates plus the ability to fix voting districts on party lines continue. They seem to cut out 'moderate' opinion.

Thanks. It looks like we just took a small step by electing a moderate.

The American voters have sent a clearly mixed message to our government.

We don't want Trump, but we don't want liberals to be in control of everything nor pass any of the aggressive legislation they envisioned.

Basically, America doesn't really know what we want. All we can begrudgingly say, with great consternation as a nation, is what we don't want.

We don't seem to be any better than the UK.

Hello Micawber,

I appreciate the sentiment that we need to ratchet down the animosity. Neither side is going away. We have to coexist.

People need (as Trump didn't, despite the propaganda) to know how to make sensible deals. President Biden and the Republican leader in the Senate, for instance, are grown-up enough to do it. It's all the chest-beating and bawling the Trumpers have been going in for that makes it hard. Politics is about possibilities and (limited, doubtless) mutual respect.

Maybe California should split and then they would get 4 Senators.
