I just vaguely recall something, simply name recognition and nothing more. I think it's one of those untested things that will make a big splash until some research is conducted. The likelihood is that either it will do nothing or may even have some harmful effects (gingko and ginseng come to mind). The thing is these substances have never been evaluated and submitted to the FDA for approval; there's some loophole that as dietary supplements they don't have to be included. Without further information I remain skeptical.
I do recall seeing some sort of ad for this, but as you've suggested Meg's experience may or may not be a placebo effect. What's needed is what we call a "blind" study, where people are unaware whether they have the test substance or "paste".
