Peanut Corp. files for bankruptcy

The west TX plant was shut down by the health dept of somesuch according to what I read yesterday.

Ohh well we can just import our peanut butter from China.
 
They were going to be sued out of existence anyway.

And the CEO should be prosecuted to the fullst extent of the law.

Instead, he'll walk away with a huge Golden Parachute and maybe some stimulus money to boot leaving the shareholders holding the bag of peanuts so to speak.

The farmers are extremely upset by all this. They're saying that they produced a clean, healthy product that was then mishandled vilely by the company and they're outraged. They are also concerned that an already shrinking demand and lower prices for peanuts will be further damaged by this case; the optimists among them are saying that this will pass eventually, but they'r just hoping that they can hold on until it does.

I still buy and consume Jif PB.

But yes it will hurt the peanut farmers thru no fualt of their own.

Unless they are supposed to be libertarian and hire their on force to police the manufacturing facilities.

The people responsible will be held responsible if there's enough evidence to convict and THE STIMULUS IS NOT A BAILOUT.

Never said the stimulus was a bailout. The stimulus is a spending bill, nothing more, nothing less.

I said the CEO of Peanut Corp would walk away with a large Golden Parachute and maybe some stimulus money. Where did I say it was a bailout?

The Bailouts were for the auto industry and the banking industry. The stimulus bill is a spending bill. They'll spend it and the CEO's will take it. Corporations will take the contracts offered by the government put the people they still have left to work on it and the management will boost their profits.

As for holding the people at Peanut Corp. responsible, I don't see that happening. The government may fine Peanut Corp, maybe even put it out of business but they will not charge the people who made those decisions with attempted murder. They won't charge them at all.

WHY would a peanut company get stimulus money?

Can you please tell me the specific part that gives out money to former peanut companies that are liquidating themselves?

You're okay with that. Apparently the consumer PB sold in the grocery stores (Jif et al) weren't from this company and they're fine. The bulk PB and other peanut products, those that were sent to schools, nursing homes, etc., did come from this company, though. We have a couple large jars of Jif and haven't had any problems.

He wouldn't, but I am just a cynic. Basically what I was saying is that the guy will walk away with a lot of money and scott free without a care in the world.
