Bankers to a Man!

Well it has been a while since I was last here, and since then we have seen the weakness of Capitalism and the fallibility of Adam Smith's invisible hand in its rawest and most destructive self.

Socialism has ridden to the rescue and now I, as a taxpayer, own whole banks made surly and unco-operative by capitalist arrogance.

Try getting your share out to use for your own needs.

Silliness. The Banks are not the "means of production" they are the means of financing.

When the government directs companies to do as they wish, using the power of government-owned banks, it is not socialism. It is fascism.

Fascism has run to the rescue. Fantastic.

Here now....it's unbecoming to gloat.

Sorry Damo. You're wrong and AOI is right. It may be an upalatable shit sandwhich of a fact but he is right.

Had not the tax payers paid for an ownership stake in these banks you may have had a point. But they did and you don't.

Again, taking a stake in the financial side of it is not the same as socialism. It is more accurately described as fascism.

Poop sandwich argument notwithstanding. When the government controls privately owned companies through financing and not direct ownership it is fascism. While the government may have socialized the means of finance (the banks) it doesn't change that strict control of privately owned companies is one of the defining measures of fascism.

Too much of our economy was based inf banks producing money from nothing.
Why we are where we are right now.

How else could the world be somewhere around 200 trillion down?
It is not like real production just vanished.

I think the reason so many have a hard time understanding the fascist undergirding that has and is taking place in corporate America, is because they have willingly and with desperate hope, allowed the government to make such a move; all in the name of bailouts and stimulus of course. Mussolini was much more blunt and crude.

Ahoy-hoy AnyOld, my fellow financier. Looks like we'll shortly have yet another banking group in our hands (hello LloydsTSB/HBOS and welcome to taxpayer heaven).

Whether you call it socialism or fascism, welcome it or loathe it, you had better get used to the prospect of nationalised banks because, even if some people don't quite realise it yet, the western world's financial sector is teetering on the brink of wholesale government ownership. It's not yet a dead cert but the clock is ticking.

The US is nationalizing banks while trying to say it's not nationalizing them. And giving bank shareholders huge windfalls in the process. I'd rather they just nationalize.

Nationalizing them implies that they would be operated in the interests of the entire nation. The fascists like eveything in their favor, free access to unlimited public funds, with zero oversight. Afterall, we have to do what they say, they're smart bankers. It takes a vast mind to understand assholery.

Imagine how badass it would be to nationalize the entire US banking system?

I'd do it just to laugh at the pain it would put libertarians through.
