Dems need a couple of Republicans

They have a majority, so put all the pork they want in it and pass it. Obama ain't gonna veto it. The Republicans won't filibusterer, at least not so much. Go far-left liberal, Democrats. I dare you.

The Republicans filibuster EVERYTHING. In my lifetime it's gone from being "they may filibuster..." to there being an assumption that the senate requires super majorities instead of majorities to pass a law. The Republicans filibustered more last year than all the filibusters in the entire 19th century.

"at least not so much"

Actually, they will filibuster. That's why they need a couple of Republicans.
They're too old and wimpie. If the Democrats held them to the actual rules of filibusters- not the watered down version that the Republicans instituted when they had control, the Republicans would fold in 1 or 2 days.

And all the progressives here are wondering, why don't they do that?

Why should simply saying your going to filibuster be enough to kill the bill? If the Republicans say they're going to filibuster this, the Democrats should say, alright, do it.

they do not filibuster everything...

and so what if they do filibuster some things? dems filibuster and yes, this is a great time to use they do it to mr. nuclear option....

Although it is not provided for in the formal rules of the Senate, the procedure is the subject of a 1957 parliamentary opinion and has been used on several occasions since. The term was coined by Senator Trent Lott (Republican of Mississippi) in 2005.[1]

The maneuver was brought to prominence in 2005 when then-Majority Leader Bill Frist (Republican of Tennessee) threatened its use to end Democratic-led filibusters of judicial nominees submitted by President George W. Bush. In response to this threat, Democrats threatened to shut down the Senate and prevent consideration of all routine and legislative Senate business. The ultimate confrontation was prevented by the Gang of 14, a group of seven Democratic and seven Republican Senators, all of whom agreed to oppose the nuclear option and oppose filibusters of judicial nominees, except in extraordinary circumstances.

Where's that gang of fourteen going to be when Obama makes his first appointment? I can assure you, absolutely nowhere. The gang of fourteen was a big fat wet kiss to the right. They gave them everything and asked nothing in return.

The Republicans do not filibuster SOME THINGS. They filibuster EVERYTHING. Everything they have the slightest grievances with gets filibustered by the Republicans, and there's never even a second question about it. The only things that don't get filibustered are things Republicans support, yet more evidence of the fact that Democrats are spineless wimps. We need a new party in Washington, one to represent progressives, rather than just the right (Democrats) and fascists (Republicans).

Republicans have shown their true colors on this one. Obama got elected in a convincing way, with a fairly clear mandate on the economy. There wasn't much ambiguity about what his plan to address the downturn would focus on.

But the GOP tunes into Rush Limbaugh for a few days, and they decide it would be fun to have the usual political theater & posturing over a fairly critical, time sensitive piece of legislation, even though 40% of it is tax cuts.

They're an embarassment. They preside over 8 years of insane spending & fiscal mismanagement, and now this....

Um...glad you admit you're an avid listener.

His advice to the GOP was well-covered in the media, as I'm sure a rabid fan like you knows. Let the Democrats go this completely alone, in the hopes that they'll fail & the Republicans can get power back.

as if he didn't give his party their marching orders before he left for another OXY/Viagra enhanced "vacation!:pke:

so I guess Keith(reader of other peoples scripts, because he's too dumb to think for himself) Overblown, Chrissy (tingles) Matthews, Randi (fell down drunk and broke out her front teeth) Rhodes, is who the Democrats get their marching orders from.?

I find it funny the hard on you Dems. have for Rush..So does he though:cof1:

That happens often. Bush is the "stupidest man who ever was in office" yet was capable of creating a conspiracy that started two wars.

Republicans They preside over 8 years of insane spending & fiscal mismanagement, and now this....

do you realize how fucking stupid you look when you typed this shit? in less than 100 days, the dems have nearly reached the amount of frivolous spending that the republicans did in all that 8 years.

Hey....that's not an ad hominem I see there, is it?

Would you argue that stupidity & power are mutually exclusive?

Would you argue that Rush is not a powerful figure in American politics right now? Would you argue that his ideas & suggestions are intelligent?

I believe that successful conspiracy and stupidity are mutually exclusive. I think you do too, because you realize how silly it is to suggest the stupidest man to hold office led one of the most successful conspiracies...

It's preposterous really. Unless you really are a "The government did it" guy when it comes to 9/11...
