California Ecomandate kills hundreds of jobs and businesses...so far

And Democrats and Obama want to do this nationwide?

"ARCADIA - Dozens, and potentially hundreds, of gas stations around California are choosing to shut down rather than comply with a state mandate that would require owners to purchase new equipment to reduce vapor emissions at the pump.
The requirement, known as Phase II in the state's Enhanced Vapor Recovery Program, is set to go into effect in April. It requires gas station owners to individually purchase tens of thousands of dollars of equipment designed to prevent harmful vapors from escaping into the air when gasoline is pumped.

But smaller retailers say that the requirement puts an unfair burden on businesses that don't sell enough gasoline to offset the extra cost - and that don't contribute much to the problem in the first place. "

K, Dano come up with any solution that does not have some negative aspects?

I challenge you.

What makes you think you need a solution on this? You're a reasonable guy us, the amount of fumes leaked from gas pumping by regular gas consumers is neglible, it does not justify these kinds of draconian equipment purchases that are so big they drive people out of business with many job losses.
All for what to barely fight a problem that more and more scientists agree does not exist?

I'm not one for mandates like this. I'm more for massive investment in alt tech.

I'd love to see most of the current stimulus go toward that, personally.

Why would they need to shut down? It's absurd. It's not as if they're being put at a disadvantage to their competitor. Their just striking. The governor should call in the military to run their gas stations until the come back to their senses and realize they can't strike against the good of humanity.

And yeah, a single gas station doesn't "contribute much to the problem in the first place" but thousands of gas stations that don't contribute to the problem do. I would rather them shut down any day than see us screwed with the fact of global warming.

More and more scientists are not disagreeing. No serious climate scientist disagrees with global warming. Not one. Right wingers, pushed along by the corporations they are thoughtless slaves to, are merely creating the perception that they are by referring to cranks far out of the fields that are have to do with global warming.

Neglible? do you have any numbers on the amount of fuel vapors released while refueling?

We are destined to become more like 2nd and 3rd world countries. A minority of haves and lots more have nots.

Uscitizen, do you really have this pessimistic of a view of our future? I am not saying you're wrong but I have never met anyone with that pessimistic of a view.......unless they were a far right religious person.

And do you also recall when MottleyDude who is a lefty and an expert in the field VALIDATED what I said that indeed a little mercury does not hurt you (ppm).

the thread I am speaking of was referring to levels in excess of safety values. I think safe mercury levels in in the ppb range anyway.
