Republicans Heart Legal Immigrants?

I guess I'm a little confused. Republicans are whining to the press again that Obama has been "unable to bring change to washington". They're upset because the CHIPS program, according to them, enjoys wide spread bipartisan support (even though W vetoed it), and if only those nasty Democrats hadn't insisted on extending coverage to the children of LEGAL immigrants, then they could have voted for it.

But wait a minute. I thought that it was only ILLEGAL immigration that upsets the Republicans, not legal immigration, which they always take great pains to insiste they love! We love legal immigrants! they yell about wildly whenever there is an immigration debate and they are accused of racism for no reason.

And yet...

"The Senate overwhelmingly approved legislation yesterday to provide health insurance to 11 million low-income children, a bill that would for the first time spend federal money to cover children and pregnant women who are legal immigrants.

The State Children's Health Insurance Program, which is aimed at families earning too much money to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to afford private insurance, currently covers close to 7 million youngsters at a cost of $25 billion.

Lawmakers voted 66 to 32, largely along party lines, to renew the joint state-federal program and spend an additional $32.8 billion to expand coverage to 4 million more children. The expansion would be paid for by raising the cigarette tax from 39 cents a pack to $1.

But the political victory may come at a price. The rancorous debate -- on a program that once basked in bipartisan popularity -- raised doubts about whether the two parties can unite to pass broader health reform later this year, several moderate Republicans said.

"This is a very unfortunate beginning," said Sen. Charles E. Grassley (Iowa). The top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, a stalwart supporter of the program, said he was "disgusted" by the way Democratic leaders handled the debate. "It does not bode well for cooperative work in the coming months," he said. But Grassley emphasized that he did not blame Baucus for the change in substance and style.

The party of no.

No real issues just things to fill in the blanks between saying "Tax Cut".

The Republicans offered up 13 separate amendments to the bill, none of which were accepted. And now they're crying about the process and are "disgusted" by the way the debate was handled? Cry me a fucking river.

The people on the right who held onto their power in this last elections are the ones who live in safe R districts. They are the hard core right. They have and will in the future overplay their hand and be completely sidelined so that the country can get something done.

I guess it's pretty obvious now that they are going to attempt to discredit Obama by using his promise to bring change to washington and usher out the same old politics against him, by engaging in the same old politics and blaming obama for not being able to stop them.

Because the man claims he can 'change Washington' is the world just going to stop so he can? I mean W claimed he was a 'uniter not a divider'. Should Democrats have agreed with everything thing he did and then run to the press and said 'W is uniting us all he's so great'?

I'm sitting in someone's office waiting for them, and I'm bored, so instead of calling you the usual name I would call you, I'm going to put in a little extra effort here.

I did not say they should agree with everything he does or says. What I said is, that it has become obvious that they are going to play the same old politics and then turn around and whine to the media that Obama has not changed Washington because they are playing the same old politics.

see, there is a difference in those two positions, and I don't think it's a very subtle one, but I'm willing to go through it again with you, providing this guy doesn't move his ass soon.

How do you feel Cawacko? Does this make sense, or do you want to go around again?

I understand what you are saying but you are not a political novice did you really expect anything else?

Well, I admit, I never thought of them using it this way, no. But I don't sit around plotting the way elected Republicans do. Aren't you ashamed Cawacko?

LOL... am I ashamed? If I was ashamed by politicians actions I wouldn't follow politics. Politicians are scum I hate them. And that includes Republicans I vote for. I expect nothing but the lowest form of behavior from them and they never let me down.

Republicans server one excellent purpose today: they serve to demonstrate how many small, greedy, narrow minded and hypocritical people populate their party. While democrats need to earn the mantle of trying, republicans have the mantle of roadblock to progress locked up.

It's like this:

They like illegal immigrants when it comes to cheap labor. But when it comes to benefits, they would even like to deny those to lifelong native born citizens.
