Republicans History Sweden

It is curious how history seems to repeat itself. Laissez faire economics driven by republican and conservative partisans has brought the country again to financial and personal disaster. Hoover is alive and well on capital hill. And what do you hear from the republicans again: lower taxes. Are they missing reality or what! Did Bush not do that and did that not contribute to the trouble we are in now. History is a tough subject for some. And the democrats are equally guilty of buying into the idea deregulated markets would bring utopia.

"The Great Depression, to 1935"

"But Sweden would recover faster. This was the result of both a liberal monetary policy and public spending. A reduction in taxes for the average wage earner gave him more money to spend. A raised minimum wage increased the ability of low-income people to spend money. The government increased investments in public works. Federal money was pumped into unemployment insurance, medical care and old age pensions. The government willingly created a deficit, believing that it was emergency spending that would be paid back after the recovery. And with recovery being rapid and revenues increasing as a result of the rising economy, the deficits were quickly overcome.

Government participation in the economic life of Sweden had increased. The government supported farm prices and protective tariffs for farm products, and giving aid to the unemployed in farming areas helped to slow migration from the countryside into the cities. The Social Democrats gave labor the right to strike, but Sweden had a board that settled worker-management grievances, a board in which labor and management had confidence. And peace between labor and management benefited the economy.

Sweden's industrialists were disgruntled over higher taxes on their personal incomes, but they did not feel threatened to the extent that they withdrew from participating in the economic recovery. Manufacturing was to remain over 90 percent in the hands of capitalists, and business profits were left untaxed in order to stimulate rapid reinvestment. By 1936, industrial production in Sweden was 50 percent above what it had been in 1929 and unemployment had returned to 5 percent."

Put that down and pick up that book about free governement money. You know the one. The guy with all the dollar signs on his suit wrote it. What's his name? Never mind, just get it, it's time for a change.

If you actually think Bush tax cuts contributed to the trouble we are in now, you really need to distance yourself from the jug of Koolade.
.... maybe even contact a good Psychologist....and pour your little heart out...

Sweden was the first country during the era of the Great Depression to adopt these principles of John Meynerd Keynes and were the first nation to recover from the Great Depression nor did they need a war time economy to return to prosperity.

Maybe it's morons like you who need to get away from the kool-aid....or at least learn some basic math. The Bush tax cuts combined with a Republican controlled congress eliminating paygo are directly responsible for the massive debt this nation aquired during his term in office.

Did you people even read what he wrote?

Christ conservatives are dumb as bricks.

I think that is disparaging to bricks. One of these partisan hacks is a lawyer I believe, can you imagine being represented by someone who cannot even respond to context! Yikes.

"The ideas of economists and political philosophers, both when they are right and when they are wrong, are more powerful than is commonly understood. Indeed, the world is ruled by little else. Practical men, who believe themselves to be quite exempt from any intellectual influences, are usually the slaves of some defunct economist. Madmen in authority, who hear voices in the air, are distilling their frenzy from some academic scribbler of a few years back. I am sure that the power of vested interests is vastly exaggerated compared with the gradual encroachment of ideas.. But, soon or late, it is ideas, not vested interests, which are dangerous for good or evil." John Maynard Keynes

Amen to that!

Republicans History Sweden

then what "country" are you talking about. you mention sweden, so i thought that you were referring to sweden. you should be more clear in your writings and less of a political hack.

Alright yurt. I'll try to explain it to you.

The article was not blaming the Republicans for Sweden's financial difficulties in any time. The article was using Sweden as an example of a nation that quickly adopted massive stimulus policies during the thirties, and never backed down (unlike FDR), and the positive things that resulted from it. It's a history lesson FOR Republicans, to show why he believes that the ideas they currently believe in implementing are inneffective. If you would've read it, instead of jumping in and writing something that has nothing to do with the topic, you'd understand that.

you're right about the article, but his words before the article are ambigious and i thought he was blaming republicans for the mess in the "country" and since he did not specify the country, i incorrectly thought he meant sweden as that was in the title.

I can only expose you to the truth, I can't make you accept it...

In reality:

* The tax cuts have not substantially reduced current tax revenues, which were in fact not far from the 2000 pre–tax cut baseline and over the 2003 pre–tax cut baseline in 2006;
* The increased child tax credit, 10 percent tax bracket, and fix of the alternative minimum tax (AMT) reduced tax revenues much more than most of the "tax cuts for the rich";
* Economic growth rates have more than doubled since the 2003 tax cuts; and
* The tax cuts shifted even more of the income tax burden toward the rich.

Tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 = ROBUST US ECONOMY and FULL EMPLOYMENT for over 6 years.....

No need to respond. You inane lies won't change the facts of history.
You're dismissed, Sport !
