Liberals versus Salt

Sigh, in the latest leftwing war on yet another random thing they hate, it is Liberals of New York (and yes Bloomberg is a Liberal) trying to threaten business to reduce salt or else.

"NEW YORK (CBS) ― Singer Jimmy Buffett will never find his "lost shaker of salt" in New York City or any other place in the country if Mayor Michael Bloomberg has his way. The mayor is waging a war on salt and he wants food manufacturers and restaurants to join his army … or else. "

But I think even New Yorkers have had enough of their nanny state:
"Nanny state. We don't need any more nanny state people can take care of themselves. We don't need the government to take care of us," said Patrick Keenan of Hell's Kitchen.

I wonder if any of these totally moronic lefties realize that adding more and more regulation makes a more unfriendly business environment, increases cost and kills jobs.

Hells Kitchen? Isn't that one of those sur-reality shows?
And we should listen to him on issues of health for what reason?

The US needs to put blanket limits on salt. It would save millions of lives and keep restaurants from sneaking the shit in there... which is life theft. Common sense. Not a lot of hard thinking there.

Yeah you sneak salt in, people can taste salt, that's kind of the point of it, if people buy it that is there choice. This is just yet further evidence that surrending economic freedoms to the state in having it pay for healthcare, gives it incentive to regulate social freedoms that people enjoy so they can save costs.

It is wrong.

what the fuck is wrong with you?!?

LOL

I like how the recently turned Independent, former REpublican Mayor, is "left wing".

But WM's is even funnier.

Bloomberg is a lifelong Democrat party member who when he could not get elected as a Dem, switched to Repub so he could get in.
He has introduced taxes galore, is against the death penalty, obviously from the above for as much regulation as possible, global warming fighter and for big increases in government spending.
I can give you that he is center left or at least used to be with support for free trade and labels himself "pro-business" (even though he supports more taxation and regulation for business), but lately with his kooky regulations they make him stand out as a leftwing pariah.

I know in simple Darla world, you judge left and right by 'D' and 'R', but reality tends to be a bit more complicated. Let me know if you need any more lessons on your own mayor.

the false outrage is redonkulous.
I am not outraged, I just lament seeing a nation of freedom turn into a nanny state to help government pay its bills in areas of responsibility that were formerly individual ones.

A year ago top, you would have called these guys turbolilbs, now you handed over your balls with the leftwing clic on here and just join in with them.
I want the old topspin back.

Yeah, Darla - don't you realize that there were only 3 Republicans in the entire Congress who were not "moderate" or "left" when Sarbanes Oxley passed?

Anyone who believes that Bloomberg is "left wing" doesn't know what the term means.

Well to me it means someone in favor of more regulations, taxes, government spending, who believes in gov fighting global warming and against the death penalty. Those are leftwing stances on government at least for 90% of the population.
For the other 10% of ultra left wackos like yourself, I suppose anyone to the right of Chavez does not get the title of leftwing.

So we should take the advice from an extremist wing nut? Isn't this the same advice ya'll gave about the banking industry?

Yeah and we should still allow carcinogens in manufacturing because the consumers will have a choice.

People can have the option to add salt to their food if they wish, but to have too much (and it usually is too much) as a part of the dish before it reaches the customer is unacceptable. Salt contributes significantly to hypertension, and stroke may be the #1 medical-related killer of Americans. (I forget the stats but I know it's #1 or #2).

Solution! Don't eat at restaurants or buy foods that are high in salt.
Come on Thorn, you said your parents taught you responsibility, do you really need government to save you from nefarious salt?
No one doubts too much is unhealthy, but so are lots of things.

I think the average American eats several times the acceptable maximum of salt everyday... but I read that out of a yearbook from 1980. They still eat way too much, that's for sure. Give consumers a choice - let them ADD it after the meal is prepared. Dano wants corporations to make this decision for us, because he hates freedom.
