Look at the name of this guys corp

So it is your belief that Christian investors (though the article makes no reference to the capital sources) gave this guy multi-millions of dollars to invest in commercial (non-religious) projects because he named his company something that could be construed by some as religious?

Yes yes yesssss... thats it... thats it... NOW you get it.... Of course of course that is what it means.

I think NO matter what this guy says it was named after it still conjures up the religious image for more people than just me.

Do you really think this con man would be oblivious to this fact when he named the company?
Yeah, sometimes even con men can get lucky. The nefarious plan wouldn't work anyway as the Evangelicals are a bit more careful. They seem to only give money either to scheisters on the TV promoting healing, or to their church.

ROFLMAO.... The above is quite funny... I should pay more attention to these "fish" wars...

That said, nowhere in the article did it suggest he had a jesus fish on his bumper or that the name of the company was somehow created to get christians to invest in his funds...

It's a reference actually. Some of the Christian Fish have the greek letters for agape or icthios inside them.

They usually have the Greek letters for fish. The first letter of which stands for a word in a specific phrase.

Ichthus

I (Iesous) - Jesus
ch (Christos) - Christ
th (theou) - of God
u (huios) - Son
s (soter) - Savior

Which, when translated to English grammatically, would mean: "Jesus Christ the Savior, Son of God".

It became a part of Christianity back in early Roman days when it was unpopular to announce your belief and continued on since then.

I have never seen one of the fish with "agape" in it. Again, agape is only significant in the fact that some ancient biblical scholars mistakenly translated it as "divine love" or "unconditional love", while native users clearly used it differently (see posts about Plato above) as simply "familial love".

Jesus your stupid.

I used to just reserve that one for Toby.

How? So you don't believe anyone gave this guy money to invest because his company name supposedly has a religious conotation to it? Then why would he do it if he didn't think it would work?

And Desh I do work in this kind of area. We have investors give us billions, not millions like this guy. I know how he raised his money. I may be stupid but I still understand all that which you apparently don't.

Awesome! 100 freaking posts on a thread because she doesn't trust Christians and thinks they are stupid. Yeah!

If your so smart then how can you read what I said and come up with this idiocy?

Actually I'm not smart nor do I claim to be. Your whole point of this thread has been very transparent and called out by a half dozen people. It seems you are now arguing against what your original intent was.

Look. I can see her point, if he did indeed choose the name of the company to relate to Evangelicals he did it, most probably, nefariously.

I just need more evidence before I'll go there. If I hear him pronounce it as "A-gah-pay" rather than as "A-gayp" I'd probably assume the same thing she did, just not quite so negatively to the people he was trying to draw.

While I think it probably wouldn't work, Evangelicals may seem weird to people but they really aren't any more stupid than any other segment of society.

So then what, did evangelical christians give this guy multi-millions of dollars because they thought his firms name had a religious conotation?

I seriously doubt it. Again, I don't think they are that stupid. They know that many people in business put out the "Christian" shingle to try to get their business. They are very careful. (This is based on my experience growing up among them. Yes, my own experience growing up in a church with more members than my current county has registered voters.)

Dude, we are talking multi-millions of dollars invested. This isn't spend $20 to buy some supposive Christian music CD. Most (if not all) of the people investing have advisors that make these decisions for them. There has to be due diligence done (of course due diligence doesn't necessarily mean you will know that he's a scam artist unfortuately). But its more than some fake Christian front group.

This too. Most of the Christians that I know wouldn't have enough to invest with this guy to begin with.
