Remember when Laura Bush said stem cell research was offering "false hope" to victims of disease & injury?

I know - it's no cure yet, but it's amazing they're already doing human trials for paralysis. I thought this quote was interesting:

Okarma said Geron did not use any federal funding for its research, and that the Bush restrictions had "devastated the field."

"People didn't think this would happen for another five years," Okarma said. "But it will happen soon, and it would have happened sooner if it weren't for the ridiculous Bush policies."

That's incredible. Imagine what is going to happen now, with federal funding.
 
it is an incorrect myth that you can only get stem cells from dead babies or harvesting them. i am somewhat involved in a start up company that can get stem cells other through other methods and it is has been proven scientifically to work, patent pending etc...so all i can say on that.

but the republican stance on stem cells is wrong, unless of course you are actually harvesting them in an immoral manner, which any doctor can do any medical research/care in an immoral matter. just because there some doctors do unethical research/treatment, does not mean all doctors should stop research and the practice of medicine.
 
im very excited about this. The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center is poised to get alot of loot. Bio-tech and Alt-energy are the future for my state and this country.

He was just commenting. I find it bizarre that you would make this leap and not take into account his past postings. Stop trying to paint him as evil.
 
For the record, I don't believe Damo is evil.

He could be tipped, though. He's like Annakin right before he killed Mace Windu.

I accept how others can view it that way and do not dismiss people's concerns with bumper sticker style inanities.

It is silly to suggest I have been "exceptionally stupid today" when this is the first you have even addressed me today. It's a baseless ad hominem. Although I've grown to expect them from the more unimaginative among the Democrats. Specifically the ones who can't see past the black/white of an idea and suggest that anybody who speaks about something is taking an extreme therefore.

Sorry to disappoint. I would not feel "evil" if I thought that embryos were babies so it is difficult to understand why I would supposedly think he was "painting me with evil".

You bugged me on Dano's thread about Obama's "anger" at a reporter "questioning his rule". You have a tendency to jump in & defend that psycho...
 
For a long time I was against stem cell research until I started learning about embryo storage facilities. I went through IVF 4 yrs ago and was blessed with my twins. I also still have 6 embryos frozen at a facility here in Austin. When I transferred my embryos to this facility I learned how many embryo's are actually abandoned. Couples end up with the child or children they were after and just won't pay for storage and wont take measures to put them up for adoption. Eventually these embryo's have to be destroyed to make room for incoming ones. If they are going to be destroyed anyway, why not do something useful with them? It makes since that something good should come from these abandoned cells.
