America(563 per million) just blew past Sweden(562) in deaths per million. trump will definitely take us past Italy(589), Spain(615), and then Britain(621) by election day, and probably a month sooner. There may be bigger failures in the Third World, but trump will be the biggest failure in the first world.

Countries will not lift their travel ban on the USA until we get this under control. Our economy will continue to long term shrink as long as we have travel bans against us.

And there is no plan to get this under control. Maybe a miracle will appear, but it will not happen by election day.

So it looks like the Alt Right will be stuck claiming it is all a hoax.
 
Something to think about. Italy, Spain, and Britain got high numbers from just part of their countries being hit hard. They were able to get it under control before it hit the entire country hard. For instance, Italy was only hit hard in Northern Italy, where only a third of the people live.

America has no plan to control Covid-19. It will spread everywhere, and continue to spread until hopefully it burns itself out. That means we should expect several times higher death rates.

And that is only if it burns itself out. Many viruses do not burn themselves out. Most viruses do not burn themselves out completely. There is a lot of wishful thinking in even thinking that it will kill hundreds of thousands more Americans.

How about the current PCR test failure?

If a testing regime is ‘picking up huge amounts of individuals with insignificant amounts of virus’—then it is effectively producing a huge amount of false positives.

Immediately, this raises the question of how many deaths were categorized as COVID deaths based on faulty tests. When this came out about the PCR tests it reduced the death statistics to junk. The figure is useless—and likely always will be because it’s going to be impossible to unravel.

And the CDC is right: stop testing asymptomatic people until a less sensitive testing regime is in place that won’t pick up individuals with six COVID viruses in their nasopharyngx. And it should happen immediately because it’s going to be impossible to keep schools open when it’s literally guaranteed that some kids are going to ‘test positive’ for COVID—when they aren’t positive, actually.

Its already going away in the sense that it is seemingly rapidly evolving into a standard coronavirus....AKA one that we barely care about.

Hospitalizations have always been the best barometer.

‘Case’ numbers are nearly meaningless at this point until PCR tests are replaced. Or until it’s mandated that a PCR test isn’t labeled positive unless it takes less than 30 cycles to detect genetic material of the virus.

If they would do that our COVID numbers would drop like a brick. If the OP wants to fault Trump for something—fault him for not making this happen, today.

Somehow, I get the idea the OP wouldn’t think that would be politically expedient. At least not until after the election.

Did it just dawn on the CDC that there should be a maximum number of cycles on PCR tests? Are these tests being cycled ‘until they can finally wring some viral genetic material out of it’?

IOW, if your PCR test comes back negative you are really, really, negative for any China Virus in your nasopharyngx lol.

How did they not know this? We are six months into this and they just figured this out?

We seem to be settling into a phase where Covid-19 kills between 500 and 1,500 a day, with no end in sight.

That is assuming that we do not have a huge expansion.

Either way, we are quarantined with no end in sight. How many years before we collapse? I hope it is years, because that will give us time to come up with a solution.

Originally I was going with deaths but months ago I went to World0Meters Serious/Critical, that seemed to be the more reliable number. It also is a good view into how stressed the hospitals are, much more that hospitalizations because people were being hospitalized when there was no medical reason to do so.

What is critical seems to differ from country to country, and even within countries. Whereas death is pretty much universally defined.

I’m to the point I’m skeptical of all the numbers.

Natural herd immunity is often difficult to come by, and may well be impossible with Covid-19. Maybe we will hit natural herd immunity at around a million deaths, but maybe we will just hit a million deaths and just keep going. I am hope we fix this well before finding out.
