Timing says it all, look for umpteen references during the GOP Convention that Trump has found the cure, and the “deep state” FDA is fighting it cause they want to see Trump defeated in November, it is their fault the pandemic is happening, plays well to the base he is appealing

I guess better late than never.
Good timing w/ the GOP convention starting this week, though.
Evidently, from a doctor just said on FOX, we do that for all instances like this one. Bama had to get emergency "authorization" and other presidents did as well through recent history.
It's just to make sure that is is "legally safe". And, this process gets sped up...........much later it can be deemed "an official approval".
